January Favorites: Bathroom Wedding & Jonas Brothers Reunion?

January 2018 was rough.

I feel as though a lot of the music that came out in January was very nostalgic, more so than usual. It’s as if everyone is longing to go back to a simpler time. Thankfully we can, just not for longer than the length of your favorite nostalgic tunes (and the stretch of your imagination).

Let’s take a look at some of the things in pop culture and entertainment that made January 2018 a little less rough:

Favorite News Articles

1. A New Jersey couple got married in a bathroom. Because the show wedding must go on.

2. There might be a Jonas Brothers reunion?! Be still my 13-year-old fangirling, beating heart.

3. CVS bans makeup brands from Photoshopping makeup ads. I love it when CVS takes initiative on things like this.

4. The A train is finally getting a revamp. Thank you, MTA, for finally rewarding this tri-borough train with a well deserved new look. I think some other trains are also getting upgraded…

5. RIP Rosie the Riveter. You will be missed, but never forgotten as a symbol for fierce, hard-working women.

Favorite Music

1. “Song for You” by Rhye. I am a new fan. Perfect track for Valentine’s Day this month.

2. “Stay Here” by Henry Green. He always knows how to break me down with those somber melodies, man.

3. “The Good Side” by Troye Sivan. Troye went all folk on us!

4. Cause for Concern, De Lux. Loving the old-school Beetles-esque vibes on this track.

5. “Tension (Interlude)” by BØRNSBlue Madonna as a whole is a great album, but this interlude definitely made it for me.

Favorite Celeb Instagrams

1. Viola Davis getting all done up for Jimmy Kimmel. I love her hair like this so much!

2. Lupita Nyong’o at the Black Panther premiere. SLAY.

3. Chrissy Teigen on a girls weekend in Upstate New York. Look at that baby bump ❤

Favorite TV Episodes

1. The Good Doctor, “Islands Pt. 2”That kiss was well waited for, and now I have to wait until they write a trip to see Lea into the show sometime in the (hopefully) near future.

2. grown-ish, “If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late.” At what point did her thumbs decide not to tell her brain that she was sending waayyyyy too many text messages?!

3. Alone Together, “Pilot”. I love how awkward Esther is. It’s so cute it’s painful.

4. Bob’s Burgers, “V is for Valentine-detta”. Gotta love the way this episode begins. Also, Louise’s makeover had me screaming throughout the whole thing.

Favorite YouTube Videos
1. Nick Jonas on BBC Radio 1’s Heart Rate Monitor. Teenage me remembers that Selena Gomez incident. So cringey. Ugh.

2. Bath With Liza. Just when you thought she couldn’t act anymore crazy…

3. Maddie Ziegler does a clothing line haul. If I were a bit younger, I’d totally look into buying some of these.

The month of lovey-dovey is here.

Wardrobe Wednesdays: Zoey in ‘Grown-ish’ Episode “Starboy”

Zoey, Grown-ish Ep. Starboy fashion outfit

I am absolutely loving Zoey Johnson, played by Yara Shahidi, on Freeform’s Grown-ish!

Last week’s episode, “Starboy,” featured a variety of amazing fashion and hairstyles from Zoey. The outfit she wore in the cafe scene was my favorite.

Her hair was combed in an intricately designed pony tail, paired with a vertical black and white striped sweater and denim jeans.

Totally comfy college style, I’ll say.

This is the perfect outfit for mid-winter weather. I live for tossing on a quick sweater with dark pants to head off to work some days.

See below for the original sweater (almost sold out on both store links) and a few other items inspired by the look.

Be sure to catch Grown-ish tonight on Freeform at 8pm EST!

Top:

1. Bloomingdale’s, $195.00 or Selfridges, $167.00

2. JCPenny, $50.00

November Favorites: “Pyor” by Darius & HTGAWM Fall Finale

November 2017 was an emotional roller coaster. I went from dancing around my room to the month’s most danceable tunes to nearly bawling my eyes out over season finales. It’s no wonder that it took me this long to sit down and gather all my favorites in pop culture in entertainment for this post.

Let’s get to it:

Favorite News Articles

1. The deets on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding. Don’t mind me, I’ll just be here waiting for the specific date in May 2018 so I can set an alarm to catch this on television from across the pond.

2. Moschino’s dry cleaning bag dress. I can already see the Halloween costumes that will come of this.

3. You can now hide away in an 8-foot scarf this winter. You know you’re a New Yorker when all you can think about is how difficult it would be to take this off on a packed and extremely warm train.

4. Cards Against Humanity Saves America. Literally. Have fun trying to build that wall, President Trump.

Favorite Music:

1. “Pyor” by Darius. BRB, letting the enchanting instrumentals of this track keep me sane until the end of 2017.

2. “Mirage” by Satin Jackets. I’m dying to know who is singing the vocals on this because I really want to delve into their solo work if they have any!

October Favorites: Obamas Moving to UES & Rihanna Drive

The cold wasted no time making an appearance at the end of October. Like, I know I was complaining that it was still summer during the first few days of fall, but jeez!

Anyway, the month of October 2017 had a mix of fun music and pop culture news coupled with a few terrible events. Monthly Favorites on The Whisper Box only focuses on the former, so let’s leave all the bad stuff behind.

Here are my favorites for the month of October!

Favorite News Articles

1. The Obamas might be moving to NYC’s Upper East Side. They say third time’s the charm, and this is the second report stating they may end up living in NYC…

2. Barbados is naming a street after Rihanna. I bet she’s gonna rev up her engine and cruise on down Rihanna Drive blasting “Drive” because, why not?

3. Balenciaga’s platform heel crocks. What is fashion anymore?

4. This woman checked her horse in at a Kentucky hotel. Was no one concerned that the horse might accidentally cause damages to the room?!

5. Lupita Nyong’o’s NYT piece on Harvey Weinstein. I’m glad spoke up about this, even if she was able to avoid this disgusting bastard’s advances. He got what he deserved 10 times over.

Favorite Music
1. “No Captain” by Lane 8 ft. POLIÇA. Something happened to my heart when I heard this song for the first time.

2. “Should I” by Phoebe Ryan. Loving the Motown vibe mixed with ’80s electropop on this track! Continue reading

Fan Art Fridays: Freddie Highmore

freddie highmore fan art

ABC’s The Good Doctor was on hiatus this week, which was so saddening because I was legit lying in bed waiting for Dr. Shaun Murphy (played by Freddie Higmore) to appear n my screen on Monday night to no avail.

The show is only a few weeks old and I am hooked! Its partially because I’ve loved Freddie Highmore’s acting ever since seeing him as a kid in August Rush back in 2007. The Good Doctor is generally a well written medical drama, in my opinion. Freddie Highmore just adds to the show’s appeal.

To get me through until Monday, November 13th’s episode of The Good Doctor, I’ve decided to feature Freddie Highmore for this week’s Fan Art Fridays. This piece of digital fan art by Oshin Padhye (OshinP) on DeviantArt features the actor smiling that sly grin he always does. Classic.

Fan Art Fridays: Gloria Delgado-Pritchett

So I’m going to finish out National Hispanic Heritage Month with one of my favorite Hispanic TV characters, Gloria Delgado-Pritchett, played by Sofia Vergara, from Modern Family.

Both the actress and the character are Colombian, which is pretty convenient.

Gloria has such a colorful personality that it’s hard not to like her. From being an overprotective mother to her crazy temper, she’s one of those television characters you can’t easily forget.

Gloria is also known for being really loud, as portrayed in this fan art by katseartist on Deviant Art. She’s screaming for her husband, Jay, as she does regularly on the show. I can hear her voice just from looking at this cartoon version of Gloria.

September Favorites: Maye Musk & “Underdog” by BANKS

September 2017 was pretty groovy.

Besides the fact that NYC weather refuses to fully transition to fall, September was pretty good in terms of pop culture and entertainment. The summer ended with a splash of great music, which I can never complain about. Also, the fall TV premieres did not disappoint.

Let’s get to my September 2017 favorites!

1. Maye Musk is our newest Covergirl. Can I be her when I turn 69?

2. Sean Spicer made an appearance at the Emmy’s. This award season is going to be wayyyyy too much fun.

3. Starbucks baristas dread the PSL frenzy. “Can’t they just put this into IVs and pump it directly into basic white girls’ veins?”

4. This college kid got hit by a ceiling tile while in class. AND HE DIDN’T DEMAND FREE TUITION. WHAT?!

5. Leo DiCaprio’s happy run. So many reasons for happiness.

2. “For a Ride” by NOVAA x LO. Can NOVAA go on tour and come to NYC sometime soon, please? Thanks.

3. “24/7” by The Neighbourhood. Because I needed something in addition to “Sweater Weather” to listen to this season 🙂
