October Favorites: Obamas Moving to UES & Rihanna Drive

The cold wasted no time making an appearance at the end of October. Like, I know I was complaining that it was still summer during the first few days of fall, but jeez!

Anyway, the month of October 2017 had a mix of fun music and pop culture news coupled with a few terrible events. Monthly Favorites on The Whisper Box only focuses on the former, so let’s leave all the bad stuff behind.

Here are my favorites for the month of October!

Favorite News Articles

1. The Obamas might be moving to NYC’s Upper East Side. They say third time’s the charm, and this is the second report stating they may end up living in NYC…

2. Barbados is naming a street after Rihanna. I bet she’s gonna rev up her engine and cruise on down Rihanna Drive blasting “Drive” because, why not?

3. Balenciaga’s platform heel crocks. What is fashion anymore?

4. This woman checked her horse in at a Kentucky hotel. Was no one concerned that the horse might accidentally cause damages to the room?!

5. Lupita Nyong’o’s NYT piece on Harvey Weinstein. I’m glad spoke up about this, even if she was able to avoid this disgusting bastard’s advances. He got what he deserved 10 times over.

Favorite Music
1. “No Captain” by Lane 8 ft. POLIÇA. Something happened to my heart when I heard this song for the first time.

2. “Should I” by Phoebe Ryan. Loving the Motown vibe mixed with ’80s electropop on this track! Continue reading

September Favorites: Maye Musk & “Underdog” by BANKS

September 2017 was pretty groovy.

Besides the fact that NYC weather refuses to fully transition to fall, September was pretty good in terms of pop culture and entertainment. The summer ended with a splash of great music, which I can never complain about. Also, the fall TV premieres did not disappoint.

Let’s get to my September 2017 favorites!

August Favorites: Target’s $5 Wines & Gummy Bear Van Gogh

I’m not gonna lie, August 2017 was pretty fun.

As expected, some amazing tunes were released during the month. I had to cut my list down or else this monthly favorites would be basically all music.

Here are my favorites in pop culture and entertainment for August!

Favorite News Articles

1. Target is launching a line of $5 wines. I repeat: TARGET IS LAUNCHING A LINE OF $5 WINES.

2. This artist made a Van Gogh painting out of gummy worms. The idea seems fun but then ants are sort of a species that tend to like sugar…

3. Companies like Hertz started cashing in on the 2017 solar eclipse. They got so excited and overbooked, then ended up having to cancel reservations. What even.

4. Justin Trudeau fell out of a kayak. And he might have done so on purpose?

Favorite Music

1. “Alone Together” by LEISURE. These guys are just phenomenal. So much groove and chill!

2. “Hurt Nobody” by Andrew Belle. I wish the tickets for his NYC show weren’t sold out so I’d have a chance to hear this live.

July Favorites: Polish First Lady Duda & Brandless

As I predicted, the good music kept it coming in July 2017.

I’m really not sure where the year went at this point. Like really. I feel like I just celebrated my birthday but then I look at the calendar and I realize that was almost 3 months ago.

Anyway, here are my faves in the world of pop culture and entertainment for the month of July 2017:

Favorite Music

1. “Miracles (Someone Special)” by Coldplay feat. Big Sean. That heavy violin intro and outro gets me every time.

June 2017 had some interesting developments.

Can I just say how excited I am for this summer’s new music?! So many amazing singles, EPs, and full length albums have come out already and the summer is less than a month in!

Let’s take a look at my favorites in pop culture and entertainment for June 2017:

4. Al Sharpton’s gym selfies. Let the man live.

5. Designer cantaloupe. Walmart, what makes you think anyone would trust this when everyone and their mother wants to buy organic?

Favorite Music

1. Mister Mellow by Washed Out. Can someone book Ernest Greene at Lincoln Center with an accompanying orchestra to perform this album live please? Thanks.

April Favorites: #FyreFraud & Commuter Barbie

Now that all of the “It’s Gonna be May” and “May the 4th be with you” memes are over, it’s time to look back at April for some monthly favorites.

Let’s just say some very peculiar things happened in April 2017…

Shall we?

Favorite News Articles

1. #FyreFraud. Let the disaster that was Fyre Festival be a lesson to all the entrepreneurs of the world.

2. There’s a new Barbie in town, and she rides the NYC subway. I almost want to be 5 again so that I can play with this.

3. Apparently adults in Australia aren’t allowed to go to Legoland. Speaking of wanting to be 5 again…

4. You can now avoid annoying coworkers with a Google Chrome plugin. Beyond awkward moment when you get a phone call while your coworker is telling you the same sob story for the 50th time.

Favorite Music

1. “Saw You in a Dream” by Japanese House. I think she just went and plucked all of my heart strings to oblivion.

March Favorites: Meme Makeup & Goldroom’s Inverno Mix 2017

March was some real drama this year, man.

February 2017 might have been intense, but March is definitely taking the crown for Drama Queen so far. Everything just went bonkers for unnecessary reasons, specifically in news, TV and YouTube. The music world churned out some spectacular tunes in time for spring, and the remixes that were released this month were on fire!

Here are my overly dramatic favorites for March 2017:

5. Apparently Trump can’t eat Russian salad dressing without causing a stir. Do no evil, eat no evil.

Favorite Music

1. Inverno Mix 2017 by Goldroom. Lot’s of goodies on this mix. The level of chill on this one really hits the spot.

2. “Chained to the Rhythm (Hot Chip Remix)” by Katy Perry ft. Skip Marley. As if the original wasn’t already amazing, Hot Chip went and made the chains tighter.
