Getting My Eyebrows Done Professionally for the First Time

thread loft washington heights manhattan nyc

As you may know, one of the items on my 30 Before 30 list is to get my eyebrows done professionally.

I’ve always had thick eyebrows, and my mom would simply trim them for me with beauty scissors and an eyebrow razor to save me a trip to pain land at a salon. However, my eyebrows were never the best they could be.

Before geting my eyebrows done professionally. Notice the stray hairs on my brow bone.

I knew getting them threaded was probably the only way I’d ever see my eyebrows reach their true potential. Even so, I waited 25 years before taking the plunge at the Thread Loft in Washington Heights, Manhattan on a Sunday afternoon.

Not going to lie, I teared up a bit for each eyebrow! It hurt a lot on the parts she treaded on my browbone. Threading the baby hairs in between my brows and around the other areas I could barely feel, though.

Overall, I’m pleased with the experience. My brow bones are so pretty and hair-free! It only cost $7, so I can’t say I wouldn’t do it again, just not too often because…pain.

Next time I go, maybe at the end of the summer, I will definitely ask to have my eyebrows trimmed a bit shorter on the top since that’s where they tend to curl. I’ll also make sure to have my eyebrows wiped with some alcohol immediately after because I broke out around that area of my face a few hours later. Regardless, I’m so glad I finally did this. Even without makeup on, my eyebrows look DECENT for once!

Maybelline Metallics VoxBox Review #MatteMetallics

*I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.

I’ve been so busy lately that I just got a chance to try on these metallic lipsticks by Maybelline that got from Influenster! I wasn’t completely sure which colors I would be receiving, so when I opened the box I was a bit shocked and kind of scared.

Two tubes of lipsticks stared back at me, one in the shade Molten Bronze (970) and another one called Smoked Silver (978). I opened each tube wondering how ridiculous I would look wearing these colors.

I’m your basic pink and red lipstick kind of gal. Occasionally, I’ll wear a purple or maybe even a brown lipstick, but other than that, I don’t go too far outside the norm. I own a tube of yellow lipstick that I’ve only worn once around the house to take some fun photos (I’d never leave home with that on!), and that’s about it.

I was really dreading the Smoked Silver. It had a bit of a purple undertone, but I wasn’t too excited about how it would look on me. Regardless, I tried it on first.

Hoping the smoky part of this lipstick wouldn’t be too intense, I got ready for work and applied the lipstick. As soon as I saw myself in the mirror I knew I wasn’t going to go out in public wearing it.

I sent a few snaps of me wearing the lipstick to my mom and she told me I looked like a smoker whose lips had been darkened by cigarettes. Then she told me I should give the lipstick to her instead!

The next day I tried the Molten Bronze lipstick. I wasn’t as worried about this one, since I already know how I look with brown lipstick. This one looks a bit dark if you put three layers on though, so I only applied two.

As you can see from my smile, I was quite pleased.

Overall, the Molten Bronze was my fave, and I’ll be wearing it again. I gave the Smoked Silver lipstick to my mom, and it looks normal on her so she’ll probably wear it every now and then. A lot of other reviewers used the Smoked Silver shade with their Halloween costumes, which worked pretty well.

The lipsticks come off easily while eating and drinking, which I’m not used to since I usually wear lip stains that keep my lips colorful after lunch. Oh well.

Let me know which shade is your favorite!

A few weeks ago I got an e.l.f. VoxBox in the mail, and I just got around to playing with the products inside. I was sent 6 products: a Hydrating Bubble Mask, Lip Exfoliator, Mineral Infused Face Primer, Baked Highlighter and Bronzer in the shade Bronze Glow, and Matte Lip Color in the shade Wine.

elf-influenster-voxbox

As a longtime e.l.f. Cosmetics fan, I was super excited to try all of these along with the makeup I use regularly. Here’s what I thought of all the products:

Hydrating Bubble Mask: I started out with this one to give my face a little bit of oompf, as I haven’t used a mask in a while, moreover, I’d never used a bubble mask. They’re all the rage right now, and rightfully so. My skin feels so nice! It was a bit weird with the bubbles dissolving so quickly as I was reading the instructions on the package but I do like the mask. I’ll definitely try to use this once a week.

Lip Exfoliator: Followed the Hydrating Bubble Mask up with this product. I’ve only ever done homemade lip scrubs made with sugar and honey, so this was very odd to me. I felt like I was putting on lip balm. As with the bubble mask, the result was great but the process was weird. Looks like I won’t be needing to make my own lip scrub for a while!

Mineral Infused Face Primer: Moving on to the stuff that actually stays on my face. I only use primer for my eyeshadow, but I have been meaning to find a nice face primer to use daily. I love that this is a clear primer! It definitely does its job well, in my opinion.

Baked Highlighter and Bronzer, Bronze Glow: I don’t use highlighter or bronzer, so I was debating if I should use it to complete my look for this post. I think the one I was sent is too shiny for my liking. I probably won’t use it ever again.

Matte Lip Color, Wine: LOVE THIS! It’s the perfect shade¬†for a subtle red lip stain. I’m definitely buying another once this one finishes. Also, how cool is the sharpener on this?!

Overall, I think I’ve fallen hard for the Primer and the Matte Lip Color. Can’t wait to put them on again for work tomorrow!

Influenster Maybelline #BetterSkinPowder Review

#BetterSkinPowder Maybelline#MNYItLook

*I received this product complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.

A few weeks ago while I was moving to NYC and still trying to set up my loft bed, my parents brought over my customized Maybelline #BetterSkinPowder Influenster box.

Maybelline Better Skin Powder

I got the shade 80, known as Rich Tan, because my current L’Or√©al True Match foundation powder is Classic Tan (N7). They sounded and looked similar so I took the chance.

Here’s my face with my L’Or√©al True Match Classic Tan:

And here it is with the Maybelline Better Skin Powder shade Rich Tan:

0818161907_HDR

The Maybelline Better Skin Powder Shade Rich Tan is definitely a bit of a lighter color than my L’Or√©al True Match in Classic Tan. It doesn’t bother me though! My skin tone looks even with both. That’s really all I can ask for.

What do you guys think? L’Or√©al or Maybelline?

Play Up Your Eye Makeup for Super Bowl 50

super bowl 50 makeup

Happy Super Bowl Sunday!

For me, the Super Bowl is a chance to enjoy hilarious new commercials and a musical performance. To others, it means getting decked out in your favorite team’s football jersey.

And for the makeup obsessed, it means playing around with your favorite football team’s colors to create a fun look!

The Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers are gonna play a fierce game tonight, and your makeup is definitely going to match that fierceness once you find some inspiration from the tutorials below.

Denver Broncos

ChristinaKisses on YouTube put together a super stellar cat eye using Denver Bronco’s signature bright orange color for eyeshadow and a deep blue gel liner. Add some fake lashes and you’re all set!

Carolina Panthers

Lisa Her dolled herself up in this YouTube tutorial using a gorgeous bright Carolina Panthers blue eyeshadow color, a black smoky eye, and a little shimmering silver above the lash line. The super long cat eye screams Panthers.

As many of you know I’m not really a sports fan, but I do love the Manning brothers so I’m rooting for the Denver Broncos tonight. #SorryNotSorry.

Younique Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes Review

I’ve never worn anything more than mascara on my eyelashes, so this was totally new for me.

As a person that wears glasses and has almost unnoticeable eyelashes behind them, a product like Younique Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes is just what I need to make my lashes stand out.

I didn’t know what to expect when I opened the package, but when I finally did, I was surprised to find two bottles of what looked like normal mascara. It wasn’t until I looked at the bottle that read “3D Fibers” that I realized how this works.

First you apply the Transplanting Gel to wet your lashes. Then, before the gel dries, apply the 3D fibers. The second step is very meticulous, because the fibers look like small dust particles that can easily end up drying in clumps if applied in a rush.

lashes process

Overall, I’m satisfied with the way my eyelashes look with the 3D fibers. I went to my mom and aunt with only one eye done to see if they could spot the difference, but they couldn’t. I can definitely see a difference, though.

I wouldn’t use the product everyday, as it takes a little bit more time to apply than my quick Maybelline mascara. I’m always in a rush on mornings, so I’ll be saving the 3D fibers for special occasions.

Purchase the Younique Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes and Transplanting Gel here for $29 USD.
