Getting My Eyebrows Done Professionally for the First Time

As you may know, one of the items on my 30 Before 30 list is to get my eyebrows done professionally.

I’ve always had thick eyebrows, and my mom would simply trim them for me with beauty scissors and an eyebrow razor to save me a trip to pain land at a salon. However, my eyebrows were never the best they could be.

Before geting my eyebrows done professionally. Notice the stray hairs on my brow bone.

I knew getting them threaded was probably the only way I’d ever see my eyebrows reach their true potential. Even so, I waited 25 years before taking the plunge at the Thread Loft in Washington Heights, Manhattan on a Sunday afternoon.

Not going to lie, I teared up a bit for each eyebrow! It hurt a lot on the parts she treaded on my browbone. Threading the baby hairs in between my brows and around the other areas I could barely feel, though.

My eyebrows after threading uncombed, combed, and with e.l.f. eyebrow gel!

Overall, I’m pleased with the experience. My brow bones are so pretty and hair-free! It only cost $7, so I can’t say I wouldn’t do it again, just not too often because…pain.

Next time I go, maybe at the end of the summer, I will definitely ask to have my eyebrows trimmed a bit shorter on the top since that’s where they tend to curl. I’ll also make sure to have my eyebrows wiped with some alcohol immediately after because I broke out around that area of my face a few hours later. Regardless, I’m so glad I finally did this. Even without makeup on, my eyebrows look DECENT for once!

Checking another one off of my 30 Before 30 list 😉

Influenster Vacay VoxBox Review

*SPONSORED

*I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.

With summer comes another VoxBox from Influenster for me to review!

This Vacay VoxBox arrived a few weeks ago while I was having internet problems, but now that the nightmare of Wi-Fi past is over, I can finally show you guys the goodies inside.

There are several items in this box that I was very excited to receive. This tiny VoxBox was packed with Eva NYC Mane Magic 10-in-1 Primer and Clean It Up Shampoo, KISS Blowout Lashes, Invisibobble, and a Target coupon for the new Sour Patch Kids Fire or Freeze candy.

Let’s dig in:

Eva NYC Mane Magic 10-in-1-Primer: I love that this product has argan oil in it (I’ve recently become OBSESSED with natural ingredients). I’ve been wanting to see if argan oil would make my hair look any different than olive oil does. Apparently this also protects against UV damage. Maybe it’ll even protect my hair from summer frizziness? We shall see.

Eva NYC Clean It Up Shampoo: I’m perfectly happy with the shampoo I’m currently using, so I’m going to hand this over to someone else. Like the Mane Magic 10-in-1 Primer, this product contains argan oil, which is pretty cool.

KISS Blowout Lashes in Pageboy: I’ve only ever tried fiber lashes, so I’m pretty stoked to find a special event to wear these to! I wear glasses, though, so I hope they’re not too long, or else they’ll brush against my specs. I’ve heard from those with naturally long eyelashes complain about the glasses problem A LOT. It’s a problem I wouldn’t mind having if it meant some extra wink length.

Invisibobble Original: As you might have seen in my haul video back in January on YouTube, I’ve been using (and loving) coil hair ties to stop breaking my locks. The ones I currently own are black, so I’m very much appreciating a second color option to match my lighter toned outfits. This is supposed to prevent marks from forming in your hair when you tie it up in a ponytail or bun, but my hair is so coarse I can’t really escape it. Regardless, I don’t see any strands getting stuck in these coils when I take them out of my hair, so I’ll give these an A-.

Sour Patch Kids Candy Freeze: It appears that the item you have to do the most work for ends up being the best. These were so yummy! I had to try two different Target stores in Manhattan to find the flavor I wanted (I got to choose between Fire and Freeze, so I was not about to burn my mouth with the Fire flavored ones if I didn’t have to), but it was so worth it. You don’t notice the cooling sensation until a bit after you swallow the first one. It’s quite nice on the tongue and the throat. Side note: I also got a cool Sour Patch wallet sticker for the back of my phone!

Overall, my favorites in this Vacay VoxBox are the Invisibobble and the Sour Patch Freeze candies. And who knows, I might like the way I look in the KISS Blowout Lashes when I finally get invited to something I can wear them to.

Wreck This Tuesdays: 5

It’s Tuesday!

I have had a very long and very stressful day that began with me missing an interview for a project and ended with me accidentally getting off a train in the Bronx instead of Manhattan.

-_________________-

Anyway, let’s get to it with this week’s pages for Wreck This Tuesdays:

Hair Drawing

This page called for some hair art, so instead of making myself bald, I went searching for hair on my rug. I sit on an ottoman on top of said rug to get ready every morning, so there’s plenty of hairs chilling in that part of my room. I taped a few pieces here without really thinking about it to much and this is what that mess created. I don’t know what it is either.

Lucio Fontana Slits

Lucio Fontana was an Italian painter who was born in Argentina. He was famous for making art that featured multiple slits or slashes.

I don’t think I did too badly here. I made my slits using a pair of scissors. Since I didn’t want to make the slits go through the to the other page, I didn’t press as hard as I could have, but still, not bad.

Coloring Over Thoughts

For this page, I was prompted to write down some thoughts and color on top of them. I’m assuming the color was supposed to make the thoughts unreadable, and therefore private, but we all know I can’t press down hard while shading. I wrote really sloppy anyway, so I doubt anyone will be able to tell what was actually written. I wrote in pencil, and the color I chose to cover this page with is pink, but it looks a bit red in the photo.

See you next week with some more pages!

Influenster Dazzle Voxbox Review

*SPONSORED

*I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.

I got this Dazzle Voxbox over a month ago, but I’ve been so busy I’m just getting around to writing a review for it.

Upon receiving this box, I noticed it was quite tiny, which usually would mean that it’s one brand sending a couple of their products. However, it turns out the box is a mini version of the assorted product Voxboxes I’m used to.

Let’s get reviewin’!

Gold Bond Ultimate Radiance Renewal: This item was in the Tinsel Voxbox I got a few months ago, and I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I take it with me on short business trips and getaways. It smells so good, and it’s great for my dry hands that are seriously wishing winter would end already.

Clairol Professional Jazzing Semi-Permanent & Temporary Hair Color: I received this in the shade Cherry Cola #56, which is the color my grandma used to dye her hair! I have never dyed my hair and don’t intend to in the near future so I’ll be giving this away to someone.

iThrive Keratin Rescue Split End Repair: In March 2018, I took a vow to be nicer to my hair, so I am no longer using any sulfate or alcohol based hair products. This will also be given away. Smells great though.

Overall, I’m so glad I got another Gold Bond Ultimate Radiance Renewal! It was a fave of mine from the last Voxbox, and I’d honestly buy it when it finishes.

Fan Art Fridays: Lorde

Happy New Year!

One of my favorite music videos of 2015 was “Magnets” feat. Lorde by Disclosure. From Lorde’s makeup, to her outfits in the video, to the dramatic sinking into the pool at the end of the video, it was everything we could ask for an more.

The song is also very groovy too, especially for the scandalous subject that the video touches on.

And, of course, we get some dance moves from Lorde in this one so it’s automatically a must-watch.

I found this awesome “Magnets” inspired fan art on Instagram by Brian Foott. I just love how he animated Lorde’s hair floating in the water!

Fan Art Fridays: Jesse Eisenberg

This weekend, the film American Ultra is out in theaters. The film’s character Mike Howell is played by Jesse Eisenberg, who had to grow his hair out really long for the part.

It’s so awkward seeing him with long hair.

It’s one thing to see Jesse Eisenberg with straight hair instead of his natural curly hair, but straight and uber long?

I’m just happy he went back to the short curliness after filming.

After being weirded out by Jesse’s hair in the trailer for American Ultra on television all week and seeing posters for the movie in pretty much every subway station, I gave in and decided to dedicate this week’s Fan Art Fridays to him.

This piece of fan art was created by artist Maartje van Hoorn. This is as much toying with Jesse Eisenberg’s hair as I can tolerate. Short and straight is fine if it’s not going to be short and curly.

You can find the original fan art here.

Fan Art Fridays: The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye)

Screenshot 2015-07-10 at 7.42.44 AM

Why is The Weeknd’s hair always 50 Shades of Cray?

I was just catching up on some music news when I found out that he’s been hiding details about an album release. Looks like someone at iTunes New Zealand couldn’t keep a secret

So apparently we can expect a new album from The Weeknd called Beauty Behind the Madness on August 28th, but that hasn’t officially been confirmed.

Please don’t get me all excited for nothing.

This piece of fan art was found on Twitter. What will it take for him to go back to the hairstyle featured on bust number one in row two?
