Maybelline Metallics VoxBox Review #MatteMetallics

I’ve been so busy lately that I just got a chance to try on these metallic lipsticks by Maybelline that got from Influenster! I wasn’t completely sure which colors I would be receiving, so when I opened the box I was a bit shocked and kind of scared.

Two tubes of lipsticks stared back at me, one in the shade Molten Bronze (970) and another one called Smoked Silver (978). I opened each tube wondering how ridiculous I would look wearing these colors.

I’m your basic pink and red lipstick kind of gal. Occasionally, I’ll wear a purple or maybe even a brown lipstick, but other than that, I don’t go too far outside the norm. I own a tube of yellow lipstick that I’ve only worn once around the house to take some fun photos (I’d never leave home with that on!), and that’s about it.

I was really dreading the Smoked Silver. It had a bit of a purple undertone, but I wasn’t too excited about how it would look on me. Regardless, I tried it on first.

Hoping the smoky part of this lipstick wouldn’t be too intense, I got ready for work and applied the lipstick. As soon as I saw myself in the mirror I knew I wasn’t going to go out in public wearing it.

I sent a few snaps of me wearing the lipstick to my mom and she told me I looked like a smoker whose lips had been darkened by cigarettes. Then she told me I should give the lipstick to her instead!

The next day I tried the Molten Bronze lipstick. I wasn’t as worried about this one, since I already know how I look with brown lipstick. This one looks a bit dark if you put three layers on though, so I only applied two.

As you can see from my smile, I was quite pleased.

Overall, the Molten Bronze was my fave, and I’ll be wearing it again. I gave the Smoked Silver lipstick to my mom, and it looks normal on her so she’ll probably wear it every now and then. A lot of other reviewers used the Smoked Silver shade with their Halloween costumes, which worked pretty well.

The lipsticks come off easily while eating and drinking, which I’m not used to since I usually wear lip stains that keep my lips colorful after lunch. Oh well.

Let me know which shade is your favorite!

Maybelline Brow Drama VoxBox #MNYBrows

A few weeks ago, Influenster sent me the Maybelline Brow Drama VoxBox. I just got around to testing the awesome eyebrow products in the box, which are the Shaping Chalk Powder and Brow Precise Micro Pencil by Maybelline New York. Both products are in the shade Deep Brown.

As someone with thick eyebrows, I tend to spend a lot of time during my normal makeup routine trying to make sure that my brows look normal. And by normal, I mean sans noticeable eyebrow hair gaps (ho do those even end up happening?!) and not sticking out every which way.

I’ve only ever used eyebrow gels and pencils that can be sharpened, so this chalk powder and retractable pencil experience was very new to me.

Here’s what my eyebrows look like without any product (they are combed though, so as not to scare you away):

I used the Shaping Chalk Powder first, and I was very impressed at how well it worked. At first I started to panic because I felt like the powder would make a mess. Then once I swept it over my brows, the color looked waaaayyyy too light.

However, it started to blend in a couple of seconds and I actually kind of liked how natural it looked!

Next up was the Brow Precise Micro Pencil. It comes with an eyebrow comb on one end and the pencil on the other. I wasn’t too impressed with the eyebrow comb because I felt that it didn’t really help tame my brows enough. The pencil does live up to its name though!

The pencil’s thinness made it very easy to fill in any gaps in my eyebrows. I felt way more comfortable using this product as opposed to the shaping chalk.

Overall, I’d recommend the Maybelline Brow Precise Micro Pencil to anyone who deals with sparseness or gaps in their eyebrows on a regular basis. If you’re going for a more natural look, the Maybelline Brow Drama Shaping Chalk Powder is the way to go.

Influenster Maybelline #BetterSkinPowder Review

A few weeks ago while I was moving to NYC and still trying to set up my loft bed, my parents brought over my customized Maybelline #BetterSkinPowder Influenster box.

Maybelline Better Skin Powder

I got the shade 80, known as Rich Tan, because my current L’Oréal True Match foundation powder is Classic Tan (N7). They sounded and looked similar so I took the chance.

Here’s my face with my L’Oréal True Match Classic Tan:

And here it is with the Maybelline Better Skin Powder shade Rich Tan:

The Maybelline Better Skin Powder Shade Rich Tan is definitely a bit of a lighter color than my L’Oréal True Match in Classic Tan. It doesn’t bother me though! My skin tone looks even with both. That’s really all I can ask for.

What do you guys think? L’Oréal or Maybelline?
