Gallery Mondays: URBANIMAL Graffiti on AI Moving Express Truck

I saw another one of URBANIMAL’s creations on a truck near my job one evening a couple of months ago. I love seeing these unexpectedly pop up on trucks in NYC.

This truck happened to be an AI Moving Express truck, and the art on it was both subtle and vibrant at the same time. It features a man in grayscale in a sort of portrait style surrounded by fish on either side of him along with a few UFOs overhead.

Looking at these little fishies in the graffiti reminded me that their waters are going to turn to ice soon, as winter is approaching :/

Gallery Mondays: Larregui @ Museo Casa Blanca, PR

larregui museo casa blanca

During my trip to Puerto Rico, my friends and I visited Casa Blanca, the ancestral home of Juan Ponce de Leon, in Old San Juan.

In one of the rooms, there were a few colorful murals on the wall that really stood out to me. This one by Taller Coco de Oro in collaboration with Edgardo Larregui, native of Bayamón, Puerto Rico, was my fave.

I’m pretty sure the black and white portion of the portrait is an old photo of Juan Ponce de Leon and the rest is a top hat and blazer paired with a colorful beard of plantain. Also, peep the watermelon grin.

It’s basically a party in a portrait.

If you’re ever in Puerto Rico, I’d definitely recommend visiting Casa Blanca!

Gallery Mondays: Le Bain Stairwell Art by Lady Aiko

le bain the standard aiko stairwell art

My friends and I checked out the rooftop at The Standard’s Le Bain during the long 4th of July weekend and came across some interesting artwork while heading up and down the stairs.

Decked out by artist Lady Aiko, Le Bain’s stairwell sets the tone of the venue, which is very risqué chic.

The section of stairwell art pictured above is one of the more PG portions, featuring one of Lady Aiko’s recurring characters. It focuses on the right side of a woman’s face as she closes her eyes with tears and pursed lips, tilting her countenance toward a butterfly and some flowers.

I love how 1950s this caricature looks. Her pointy nose is super sexy!

I wonder whose lips she’s preparing to kiss…

Fan Art Fridays: Happy Belated Birthday, Oli White!

British YouTuber Oli White’s 22nd birthday was yesterday, January 26. It’s so hard to believe that some of the YouTubers I watch regularly are younger than me. Especially Oli.

I don’t know why, but I always thought he was at least a year older than me until recently.

In celebration of Oli White’s birthday, enjoy this fan art I found of him on Pinterest by Ally. It’s a super cool cubist-like portrait of the YouTuber, which I think fits his personality perfectly.

P.S. Look at all those birthday drinks!

Fan Art Fridays: Happy Belated Birthday, Robert De Niro

Robert De Niro turned 73 on Wednesday.

How is Robert De Niro 73?! Jeez. Was Goodfellas really that long ago?

Anyway, enjoy this piece of fan art I found of the birthday boy by Shahin Gholizadeh. It’s a side profile of the actor that shows off his “Touch of Gray.”

Fan Art Fridays: Idris Elba

On my way home from work today, I discovered that the upcoming movie The Dark Tower starring Idris Elba is going to be filming in New York City’s Garment District this weekend.

This probably means that there’s a chance you’ll see Idris Elba in the area. Time to start flipping out!

Fingers crossed he’s in the scenes that they’ll be filming.

Because of this awesome news, I can’t stop thinking about Idris Elba, so I went ahead and found some fan art of him on Deviant Art. This digital portrait by dolgwol was inspired by his character on the BBC series Luther.

I think I have a thing for digital art that look like paintings.

Fan Art Fridays: Gilmore Girls

Yesterday, PopSugar released an article detailing the full cast of the Gilmore Girls revival on Netflix and I couldn’t be more excited!

I feel so old when I think about the last episode that aired back in 2007. I don’t even really remember much of the finale, so I’ll have to re-watch a couple of episodes from the last season to refresh myself before the Netflix premiere. If only Netflix would tell us when already so I can allow myself enough time to do so.

Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel will be returning as Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. Liza Weil will return as Paris Geller, Scott Patterson as Luke Danes, and today Melissa McCarthy announced she’ll be coming back as Sookie St. James!

I can’t wait to see everyone back at Stars Hollow. In the meantime, enjoy these portrait sketches of the Gilmore Girls cast I found on Deviant Art by kitsunegari16.

Gallery Mondays: Mystery Woman at Klimat Lounge

In December, I went to a Monday night Giggle Pit comedy show at Klimat Lounge in the East Village with a few friends. After the show, I needed a quick bathroom break.

While waiting on the line, I saw this portrait of a mystery woman staring right back at me. In the bathroom. Totes cool.

The colors of the portrait match the bathroom’s rusted red and brown design quite well, so she almost blended in. I can’t really tell her ethnicity or her age by this painted portrait, which makes her all the more mysterious.

Klimat Lounge has a rotating art gallery every month. Be sure to stop by for a drink and some new art this month.

Fan Art Fridays: Happy Belated Birthday, Selena Gomez!

Selena Gomez turned turned 23 this week! Woohoo!

Apparently, on her birthday (July 22nd), Justin Bieber supposedly sang her a “Happy Birthday” song over FaceTime, complete with a rose and all (not sure which version of the birthday song, but I hope it was PG).

Some stars have a habit of giving the fans a gift around their birthday as well, and Selena is no exception. She announced that her upcoming album Revival will be released on October 9th!

Are you excited or what?!

In celebration of these events, I’ve dedicated this weeks Fan Art Fridays to her. This piece of fan art was found on Instagram, and it was done by self-taught artist @aldohatta.

Happy belated birthday, Selena Gomez!

Cue the music.
