Fan Art Fridays: LIGHTS

LIGHTS released a new song today called “Giants,” and now I’m excited about her upcoming album Skin&Earth.

I didn’t even know she was putting out a new album, much less that she had dyed her hair red! Where have I been?!

Anyway, let’s celebrate the release of “Giants” with this awesome fan art I found of LIGHTS by @kellymusler over in Instagram. Her hair looks super fiery in the color pencil sketch, which I absolutely love!

See more of Kelly Musler’s fan art here and be sure to check out “Giants”.

This Week in Music: LIGHTS’ “Running With The Boys” Music Video

The only boy LIGHTS should be running with is Beau Bokan!

Much Music had the honor of premiering the music video for “Running With The Boys” by Canadian artist LIGHTS.

The song is from her latest album Little Machines. It’s not one of my favorites on the track, but I can see how it fits in with the theme of reminiscing that is present on the album.

“Running With The Boys” is a medium tempo song with a light electronic disco vibe. For some reason, there’s not a single male in the video. Instead, LIGHTS rides around on a bike with a few of her lady friends, majestic hair blowing in the wind and all.

There’s a scene where LIGHTS swings around on a tire swing. Not sure if that was supposed to be sexy.

The video ends with all of her friends veering off the path on their bikes, leaving LIGHTS alone as she watches a younger version of herself pedal past her.

I wasn’t really impressed with the video but I still encourage you to check it out. Because, who can resist wanting to stare at LIGHTS’ beautiful face for 4:23?

6 Love-ly Things That Occurred in the Celeb World Post-Valentine’s Day 2014

heart-208223_640

Valentine’s Day weekend is over. You probably had way too much fun slipping and sliding on the treacherous ice in the Northeast if you happen to live there.

Some amazing news spread left and right over the passed three days. I mean, “jaw-dropping, OMG, AWW” quality kind of events happened in pop culture.

This list was originally “5 Love-ly Things That Occurred in the Celeb World Post-Valentine’s Day 2014” about fifteen minutes ago.

That’s just how amazing.

So here we go:

1. The epic photos of Lauren Silverman and Simon Cowell’s son, Eric Phillip Selig Cowell, born in New York City on February 14th. Now that is a name.

2. Ellen Paige comes out as gay. Alright! Can you star in another movie with Michael Cera ASAP? Can that be arranged, Ellen? I’m having Juno deprivations at the moment.

3. Christina Aguilera is now engaged to Matthew Rutler. This guy definitely knows how to sweep a girl off her feet.

4. Jennifer Lawrence is presenting at the Oscars this year. I’m literally dying for the premiere of the 86th Academy Award Show on Sunday, March 2nd to come already.

5. John Krasinski and Emily Blunt’s daughter Hazel was born today, February 16th. Daddy Krasinski is jazzed about it.

6. Canadian artist LIGHTS and Blessthefall’s Beau Bokan’s baby girl, Rocket Wild Bokan, has arrived! In honor of this, can we just watch them cover Lana del Rey’s “Video Games”?

This is too much for love cupid Eros to handle. Can we cool it until next year, guys?

Winter 2013 Playlist

winter playlist

The end of the year is approaching, and the frigid cold weather is coming. It’s time to gather around the fireplace with some peppermint hot chocolate! The wintertime makes for great snuggle weather, so while you’re getting all cozy, here are twelve songs to make you feel warm and fuzzy.

1. Lighting Strike, Snow Patrol: If you’re planning to drift off to sleep, this sixteen minute song is all you’ll need. The track is split into three parts: “What If This Storm Ends,” ‘The Sunlight Through the Flags,” and “Daybreak.” Part three of the song might bring you to tears with its soft vocals and heartwarming guitar rifts.
Part 1: “What If This Storm Ends”
Part 2: “The Sunlight Through the Flags”
Part 3: “Daybreak”

2. If You Want to be Used, I Am Apollo: This song is the anthem of the vulnerable. Let it remind you not to fall into just anyone’s arms to escape the cold this winter.

3. Freedom, Emma Louise: The soft synth beat of Emma Louise’s “Freedom” might make you want to get up and dance the cold out.

4. Impossible, Anberlin: Another anthem of the vulnerable, yet this one is about giving in. Anberlin knows what it’s like to feel their “teeth clench” and their “hands shake” during the winter.

5. Siberia, LIGHTS: This is the perfect song to cuddle with your special someone. The lyrics are especially cute, as LIGHTS sings “No matter where we are / Or which way the wind blows / Or how heavy the snow / Nothing can change where we will go.” There’s also a really cute acoustic version here.

6. Northern Lights, Cider Sky: The Aurora Borealis looks amazing at this time of year, so if you live in a place where they’re visible, take some time to admire them. And for those of you who can’t see them at all, let this song give you an idea of how beautiful they are.

7. The Saltwater Room, Owl City ft. Breanne Düren: We’ll all be singing along with Owl City as he sings, “I was feeling the night grow old / And you were looking so cold / Like an introvert, / I drew my over shirt / Around my arms and began to shiver violently before.” This extremely romantic song features the sweet voice of Breanne Düren.

8. Everything You’re Not, Demi Lovato: The bell sounds in the intro of this track will get you in the holiday spirit. And let Demi’s sass power you through this winter.

9. Back to December, Taylor Swift: It’s that time of year again to reminisce on what we once have, and what we’ve lost.

10. Conspiracy, Paramore: Yes, mother nature, explain this conspiracy of cold weather you’ve plotted against us.

11. Rowboat, Emily Haines: This song is especially sad, with its melancholy trumpet and piano melody. Don’t be a rowboat left in the rain this winter!

12. Canvas, Imogen Heap: Maybe we should all take Imogen Heap’s advice when she says, “The more you look the less you see, so close your eyes and start to breathe.” The winter might breeze by faster that way. And let’s all thank God that we don’t have to haul a black canvas through a winter storm.

Have a great winter, and stay warm!winter

Prince William and Kate’s Second Anniversary

Image

I remember Will and Kate’s wedding on April 29, 2011 at Westminister Abbey. I was a first year student at Bard Early College Queens at the time. I woke up at 6am to watch a portion of the wedding on ABC 7, then took a shower and watched some more as I ate my breakfast.

It was 7:25am—five minutes after I was supposed to have left for school.

But they hadn’t kissed yet.

So, naturally, I wanted to skip school. But my mother wasn’t having it.

I proceeded to grab my school bag and rush through the door. Then I realized I had forgotten my keys.

I ran back to get them, ran across the street and then remembered I left my retainer.

That was a pretty hectic spring morning for me.

Nonetheless, I made it to school on time. With 15 minutes to spare!

When I got home I saw pictures of the kiss, so it was all good.

Prince William and Kate celebrated their wedding anniversary on April 26th with a private dinner in London.

How cute!

The six months pregnant Kate Middleton will be ready to blossom in no time!

I cannot wait to see their lovely offspring this summer!

These two are my model couple. Even though my dad thinks it’s stupid, I have a photo of them on my dresser drawer, along with LIGHTS (Valerie Poxleitner), Demi Lovato, and a my best friend at graduation.

I love them as a couple, and I hope one day I can share a romance like their’s with the one that I love.
