6 Love-ly Things That Occurred in the Celeb World Post-Valentine’s Day 2014

Valentine’s Day weekend is over. You probably had way too much fun slipping and sliding on the treacherous ice in the Northeast if you happen to live there.

Some amazing news spread left and right over the passed three days. I mean, “jaw-dropping, OMG, AWW” quality kind of events happened in pop culture.

This list was originally “5 Love-ly Things That Occurred in the Celeb World Post-Valentine’s Day 2014” about fifteen minutes ago.

That’s just how amazing.

So here we go:

1. The epic photos of Lauren Silverman and Simon Cowell’s son, Eric Phillip Selig Cowell, born in New York City on February 14th. Now that is a name.

2. Ellen Paige comes out as gay. Alright! Can you star in another movie with Michael Cera ASAP? Can that be arranged, Ellen? I’m having Juno deprivations at the moment.

3. Christina Aguilera is now engaged to Matthew Rutler. This guy definitely knows how to sweep a girl off her feet.

4. Jennifer Lawrence is presenting at the Oscars this year. I’m literally dying for the premiere of the 86th Academy Award Show on Sunday, March 2nd to come already.

5. John Krasinski and Emily Blunt’s daughter Hazel was born today, February 16th. Daddy Krasinski is jazzed about it.

6. Canadian artist LIGHTS and Blessthefall’s Beau Bokan’s baby girl, Rocket Wild Bokan, has arrived! In honor of this, can we just watch them cover Lana del Rey’s “Video Games”?

This is too much for love cupid Eros to handle. Can we cool it until next year, guys?

This Week in Music: Taylor Swift’s “Sweeter Than Fiction”

sweeter than fiction

Taylor Swift has a new song featured on the One Chance soundtrack called “Sweeter Than Fiction”!

If anyone is going to write a sweet little song about life, Taylor Swift is your girl for the job.

The film about Britain’s Got Talent winner Paul Potts, directed by Simon Cowell, comes out in the UK on October 25th, 2013.

Luckily, the song “Sweeter Than Fiction” is already out for your listening pleasure.

“Sweeter Than Fiction” is a medium tempo tune with lots of guitar and drum beats.

The intro is a lovely melody of major chords that sound full of triumph and hope.

The instrumentation of the rest of the song is nothing out of the ordinary, but the lyrics are heartwarming.

The lyrics of “Sweeter Than Fiction” take listeners through the doubts and triumphs of success. The second part of the first verse is beautifully written, as she sings,

Seen you fall, seen you crawl on you knees (eh, eh)
Seen you lost in a crowd, seen you colors fade
Wish I could make it better
Someday you won’t remember,
This pain you thought would last forever and ever (Verse 1, Part 2)

The bridge of the song reminds us all why we love Taylor’s voice so much, as the beat slows down a bit and she drags some of the words out legato:

I’ll be one of the many saying
Look at you now, look at you now, now
I’ll be one of the many saying
You’ve made us proud, you’ve made us proud, proud

And when they call your name
And they put your picture in a frame
You know that I’ll be there time and again
‘Cause I you loved when… (Bridge)

The way the drum takes over in the instrumentation of the last few lines of the bridge brings a nice touch of sentiment to finale of the song, in which Taylor sings the first part of the first verse again.

I hope this song actually plays during the film and not just the end credits.

Or worse: I hope its not just for the soundtrack. That would be a shame to waste such a beautifully written song when it could well be played in the film itself.

Enjoy the track!

Simon Cowell is Going to be a Father?!

This morning I learned that 53 year old grouch Simon Cowell, X Factor judge and former American Idol judge, is going to be a father.

And that’s not the best part.

The mother of his child is his friend Andrew Silverman’s estranged wife, Lauren Silverman.

Yes. You read correctly. Simon Cowell got his friend’s wife pregnant.

The two have been hanging out quite a bit over the past two years.

Real estate developer Andrew Silverman and 36 year old New York socialite Lauren Silverman “have been unhappy in their marriage for some time, and their divorce has been in the works for a while,” a source says. “As their marriage deteriorated, she and Simon became close.”

Lauren Silverman plans to leave her husband to be with Cowell. She’s ten weeks along in her pregnancy.

I’m not sure how to react to this news.

First there’s the fact that he’s having a child with a woman who is married to another man.

Another man who he happens to call his “mate.”

Isn’t this a violation of bro code? I mean, I know that Andrew and Lauren have been separated for a while but Jesus! That doesn’t give him permission to swoop in and impregnate the woman!

Then there’s the terrible reality that this is Simon Cowell we’re talking about here. The man we love to hate.

Back in 2009 he said, “God, no. I couldn’t have children. If I had them here drawing on the walls I’d go nuts. With kids, you’ve got a routine you can’t escape from. You’ve got to be up at a certain time. Got to listen. When all you want to do is sit in a corner thinking.”

His feelings on being a father changed last year, as he stated in an interview with AOL Music, “I do really, really like kids, because I can talk to them and listen to them. The problem has always been how much time you need to devote to bringing up kids. I’ve always dedicated all my life to work, and at 52, I’ve probably missed the opportunity.”

This year he claims, “If I knew I could be – how do I put this delicately – faithful, I would. I do like kids, I’m just not sure I’d be any good for the first six months. I don’t think I’d adopt because I’d rather have my own. I’d have to say I’d like a little girl.”

I wouldn’t exactly trust him to babysit a child, much less be the parent or guardian of one. He’s just not the type of guy you can picture cradling a child in his arms.

No matter how hard I try I just can’t do it!

I hope Simon Cowell treats the youngster better than he treats the contestants on The X Factor.

I really do.

‘The X Factor’ Taping at Nassau Coliseum

Yesterday I went out to Long Island’s Nassau Coliseum with my friend Kristell to watch The X Factor taping.

I’ve never been part of a live audience before, so this was pretty exciting for me.

However, my excitement disappeared when the clock struck 1pm and they weren’t letting us in. The ticket told us to arrive by then, so we got there around 12:25pm. We didn’t actually go inside until about 2:25.

The sun was unbearably hot. The soles of my feet were killing me and there’s a tan line from my flats on both of my feet.

When we got inside I was starving, so I bought cotton candy. It cost me $6.75. Since when does cotton candy cost six freaking dollars and seventy-five cents?!

Once Kristell and I sat down and I put the cotton candy in my mouth, I got excited again.

Jay Flats pumped the crowd up while we waited for the judges to arrive. We “got rowdy” to Martin Solveig and Dragonette’s “Hello” and Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe.”

Then they did a sound check. Amy, a member of the crew, sang “Rollin’ on the River.” She was really good.

After the sound check came the camera check. Audience members either got really shy, excited, or did nothing when they saw their faces on the big screen. The elderly were most likely to do nothing when the camera focused in on them.

At around three, judges Demi Lovato, Paulina Rubio, and Kelly Rowland showed up. They began auditions without Simon Cowell.

Simon didn’t arrive until three auditions later. When he walked in, the Franco Sisters were on stage and they thought the screams and cheers were for them. Unfortunately, as soon as he opened his mouth I wished he had gone back to wherever he came from.

He blamed Demi for his lateness, saying that she texted him to be there at 3:30 instead of 3. How dare he!

Then he told the older Franco sister off. I won’t spoil that part for you, but I think that what he said to her was unnecessary.

The youngsters were definitely blowing us all away. The three to look out for are 13 year olds Hannah Johnson and Ashley, and 15 year old Isaiah Austin.

Another interesting performer was Steven, a 40 year old blueberry farmer from South Korea who moved to the US when he was 18. I wasn’t expecting him to be any good, but gosh did he shock us all with his audition! He sang “Wind Beneath My Wings” starting at the final chorus. Wow is all I can say to that.

Then of course there were the trolls, Vincent and Tara. The sad part about the trolls is that they let them sing for longer than the people that can actually carry a tune.

During the breaks in between auditions, there was a girl in my section with a Demi poster that had lights on it who kept screaming Demi’s name at the top of her lungs. By 4:30 she hardly had a voice. But she just kept on screaming. And Demi just kept on ignoring her.

Overall my first experience as an audience member was okay. The waiting and the food prices were annoying, but otherwise I had a good time.
