Gallery Mondays: Marble sarcophagus lid with reclining couple

Marble sarcophagus lid with reclining couple MET museum 5th ave

Valentine’s Day is coming up this week, so I figured it would be fitting to have some couple-themed art on this week’s Gallery Mondays.

I saw this lovely ancient Roman sculpture of a reclining couple on Museum Mile Day last year while visiting the Met Museum on 5th Avenue in NYC. The sculpture is from the Severan period (specifically 220 AD). I actually went back to the Met this weekend but the section of the museum where this piece is exhibited is roped off, so you can’t get too close to it anymore.

Made of marble, the couple, who are supposed to symbolize water and earth, rests on a sarcophagus lid. The face of the woman is said to have not been finish because her husband died before her.

Heartbreaking.

When I first saw this, I thought that this was basically the ancient version of Netflix and chill. Like, come on. Tell me that pose isn’t similar to the way couples rest on the couch or bed for a Netflix session.

The Met has plenty more romantic sculptures like this one, so if you’re looking for a date idea that isn’t Netflix and chill, you should totally head there for a day at the museum with your boo!

You can still enjoy a your Netflix and chill after you get back home, though ūüėČ

For Valentine’s Day 2018, I’ve decided to collaborate with fellow blogger Tiffany Khyla over at Endless Bliss to make you lovebirds two lovey-dovey playlists!

Tiffany Khyla, Endless Bliss

Tiffany Khyla is a full-time hotel social media marketer and a part-time blogger at Endless Bliss, a happy lifestyle and entertainment blog for wanderers, dreamers and happiness seekers. On Endless Bliss, she shares her tales of working on a cruise ship, the ups-and-downs of living the Air Force lifestyle and her obsession with Harry Potter. She’s an ESFJ Sagittarius with a passion for people, exploring new places and getting lost in a good book. When she’s not busy behind a computer screen, you can find her singing along to every Taylor Swift song, stuffing her face with sushi or sipping on a glass of Cabernet.

You can check out her playlist here.

As for my playlist, which I’m dubbing “Spotify & Chill,” it starts out sappy and slow, then switches to a smooth groove toward the end.

So get cuddly with some wine and crank up the volume with this Valentine’s Day 2018 Spotify & Chill 8-track mini mix!

1. Song for You, Rhye. Because what kind of romantic chill session would this be without Rhye?

2. Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop, Landon Pigg. I can’t promise that this is as sappy as it gets. #Sorrynotsorry

3. Love is a Drum, Cider SkyIf you’re not lying close enough to hear the other person’s heartbeat then you’re doing it wrong.

4. Oh My Stars, Andrew Belle. “If everything you’ve said to me has been true, then all my stars are leading me to you.” ‚̧

Fan Art Fridays: Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth (Miam)

This morning I saw an article in my BlinkFeed reporting that a source said Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are planning to get married in Australia this summer.

Jaw. Drop.

OMJ this is major.

I am so freaking happy for them! I really hope they make it down the aisle together, and I look forward to seeing them all cute and lovey-dovey in photos all over the tabloids this summer.

I also can’t wait to see what Miley’s dress will look like!

Gallery Mondays: Jessica Calderwood’s ‘Pressed’

jessica calderwood pressed

Did you get to press your lips against someone’s fuzzy face for Valentine’s Day yesterday? I hope you did!

I saved this piece of art I found at R|R Gallery in the West Village of NYC called Pressed¬†specifically¬†for the day after Valentine’s Day because, well, you know, it’s so cheese. And squish. And warm. And fuzzy.¬†

The artwork was part of an exhibit called Flora and Flesh by Jessica Calderwood, which I got to see on it’s opening night, January 21st. The piece was created using enamel on metal. I’d love to have been there to watch Calderwood¬†make these, because they look super difficult yet so fascinating.

I really like the anonymity of the artwork because it’s easy to just imagine yourself or a couple you know¬†as the faces hidden in fuzzy pom poms. Since the arms that are visible look like newspaper print black and white, there’s no exclusion when it comes to race either.

It kind of reminds me of the face in a hole images, except way fancier.

So grab a blanket for two, a bottle of wine and cuddle up with your Valentine, because it’s time to celebrate Valentine’s Day 2016, Nicholas Sparks style. Here are four books and movies by the author that’ll put the sap in sappy romance.

Gallery Mondays: Kobra’s ‘The Kiss’

the kiss kobra

Valentine’s Day is coming, so it’s time to get a bit lovey-dovey.

This colorful mural by Eduardo Kobra might trigger a black and white memory of a real life event that happened in Times Square on V-J Day in 1945 commemorating our victory over Japan.

The photo, taken by Alfred Eisenstaedt, captures one of the most romantic kisses of all time between a soldier and a nurse. Swoon.

Kobra turned their black and white memory into color, and for that I’m sure they’ll be eternally grateful.

Looking for a cute Valentine’s Day photo to take with your honey? Imitate Kobra’s street art, which can be found in Chelsea NYC, specifically on West 25th Street and 10th Avenue.

Fan Art Fridays: Grace Helbig and Chester See (Grester)

In honor of #NaNoWriMo, every Fan Art Fridays post for November will have a fan fiction story to go along with it. Coincidentally, the cover of the fan fiction is almost the same as this week’s¬†fan art!

YouTube fans cannot stop gushing over Grester. I figured that I would find some pretty good fan fiction about their relationship online, so I decided to go with this piece of fan art I found on Deviant Art.

The artwork was created by Super-Gia, and it’s a cartoon/anime version of a picture from a photo shoot Grace Helbig and Chester See did together. Chester’s cartoon looks so much like him! Grace sort of looks like a housewife that loves to drink wine, but I don’t hate it!

Head over to Whattpad to read this awesome fan fiction by croyden called The Secret Love which is about Grester hiding their relationship from their friends. At this rate, these two will get married and not tell us anything.
