Ruben Studdard Resurfaces for ‘The Biggest Loser’

Ruben_Studdard_2

Just a few months ago, a few college friends and I were commenting on the fact that Ruben Studdard basically disappeared from the Hollywood scene after his one hit “Sorry for 2004.”

That song is so old I don’t even remember the lyrics that well.

So much for winning American Idol in 2003.

Apparently Ruben Studdard, the “Velvety Teddy Bear”, is still alive and wants to lose some weight.

Since he didn’t do so well with winning on Idol, he has decided to lose on NBC’s The Biggest Loser. He will be appearing on the 15th installment of the show.

Ruben Studdard weighed as much as 450 lbs at his highest. It’s no wonder he wants to lose some pounds on the show, even if it means doing it publicly.

He began to gain weight again in 2012 after successfully shedding a few pounds in 2006 due to a divorce. I was not even aware that he was married, but apparently he was wed to Surata Zuri McCants in 2008.

Studdard told People magazine that “[He’s] never had an issue with [his] weight, [but his] family has a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, heart-related issues—things [he] didn’t have to deal with yet because [he’s] young. But [he doesn’t] want to be worried at 40, and if [he doesn’t] fix things now, [he] will be.”

I wish him all the best on his weight loss journey. Anyone who decides its time to get healthy should have all the support he needs.

Taylor Swift Look-a-like Gets Beaten Up

For what reason you may ask?

Well, if you must know, for the simple coincidence of looking like country-pop star Taylor Swift.

Yeah.

taylor swift lookalike

From buzzfeed.com

18 year old Xenna Kristian, a student at Walford and North Shropshire College in England, has it all: the blonde locks, the bangs, the blue eyes and the innocent face.

So, since she realized how much she resembled Ms. Swift, she acted on it. Xenna became a professional impersonator after hearing from so many people that she looked like the singer.

I don’t see anything wrong with that. To be honest, if I looked like a famous person I’d totally do the same.

In fact, she looked so much like Taylor Swift that after Swift broke up with Harry Styles she says, “young girls [would shout] at me, ‘Leave Harry alone.’”

Wow.

Unfortunately, there are many Taylor Swift haters out there, so what did one of her colleagues decide to do?

Break her jaw. Because, that’s what you do when someone resembles a person you hate right?

“All of a sudden she came from behind me and grabbed me by the hair, pulled me backwards off my chair and onto the floor and started kicking me in the face,” said Kristian, recalling her attack. “I tried to get up but she just kept kicking me,” she said.

Authorities at school could do nothing about it, since they aren’t allowed to touch students during physical fights.

Watch her and her mom talk about the incident in the video.

I’m appalled.

There’s too much violence and hatred in this world.

Just because you don’t like a person, it doesn’t mean you should become violent towards them.

In my head, the way it works, is, if you don’t like someone, you try your best to avoid them.

That would mean you steer clear of them in the halls if its someone at school, and if its a celebrity you don’t listen to their music on YouTube and leave mean comments.

Because all you’re doing is making them more famous.

Like Xenna. Now she’s all over the internet because of this one stupid girl who decided it was okay to kick her face in.

As Justin Bieber, another hated celebrity, said in an interview with Teen Vogue, “Every time a hater visits my YouTube page I get, like, four cents. So I tell the haters to keep hating, keep commenting, because I’m making money.”

So you’re really not harming anyone you little internet hater trolls. You’re just making them richer.

Haters gonna hate.

I hope Xenna recovers soon, and is not discouraged from doing what she’s doing.

Because I’m sure the haters love her.

Selena Gomez Bindi Trouble

I guess all isn’t fair in love and music.

On Sunday, April 14th, Selena Gomez took the stage at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards show to perform her new single “Come and Get It”. The song definitely caught me by surprise when I first heard it last week, with its Bollywood vibe. I can’t say it isn’t a catchy tune.

However, her performance that night stirred up much controversy in the Hindu community. Unfortunately Selena Gomez’s wearing of the Bindi, a traditional Hindu forehead decoration, is not sitting well with them.

Selena Gomez

The Traditional Bindi

“The bindi on the forehead is an ancient tradition in Hinduism and has religious significance. It is also sometimes referred to as the third eye and the flame, and it is an auspicious religious and spiritual symbol. It is not meant to be thrown around loosely for seductive effects or as a fashion accessory aiming at mercantile greed. Selena should apologize and then she should get acquainted with the basics of world religions,” said Rajan Zed, leader of the Universal Society of Hinduism in an E! News article about the controversy. They’re demanding an apology from Selena Gomez.

A little harsh there, no?

I don’t necessarily think Selena did anything wrong. It’s art, and it should be appreciated for what it is. I’m sure she meant no harm in wearing the Bindi for her performance.

I personally would not have worn a Bindi for that kind of performance only because of my paranoia that something like this would happen. Instead, I’d wear some kind of Indian forehead jewelry. But then again, they might say something negative about that too.

Not to worry though. Britney Spears has her back. She wrote on Twitter:

“Wow @SelenaGomez… “Come & Get It” on the #mtvmovieawards was incredible! One of my favorite songs out there right now!”

A fan commented on the E! News article “Selena Gomez Bindi Controversy: Hindu Group Offended by Singer’s Forehead Decoration at MTV Movie Awards”,

comment bindi

A good point is being made here. I don’t see any Catholics pointing figures at people who wear the Rosary and aren’t even of the Catholic faith. The Hindu community should seriously calm down about Selena!

Selena Gomez has not yet responded to the controversy.

In the mean time, check out the performance that started this mess!

Strict Dress Codes on the Red Carpet

Showing off too much skin is a common 21st century problem. CBS is trying to do something to stop this problem at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards—for the duration of the show at least.

In the past there have been way too many females showing up to the red carpet half dressed. Yes, half dressed, because there is no way they finished putting all their clothes on. So for Sunday’s Grammy Award Show, no breasts, no butts, and no see-through clothing. To be exact, CBS asks that all “buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered.” They also request that all attendees make sure they do not arrive in see-through clothing and state that “thong type costumes are problematic.” Some are blaming Rihanna’s obscene sense of style at last year’s show for this ban.

Why would anyone want to feel so uncomfortable at a televised event? The red carpet wardrobe malfunctions are terribly embarrassing, and could have been avoided had these women chosen to cover up a bit more.

Here are a few of the most popular red carpet wardrobe malfunctions.

wardrobe malfunctions

1. Anna Faris:

In May 2012, Anna Faris flashed the crowd at the premiere of The Dictator in London.  She wore a blood red low cut dress. The slit of this dress runs way too high. Anyone ever hear of a needle and thread?! Fortunately, Faris, unlike many other females, was wearing a pair of undies. Close one, Anna.

2. Melody Thornton:

Former Pussycat Doll Melody Thornton really succeeded in showing off her body in that dress during the Elle Women in Music event in April 2012. The material of this dress is completely see-through! How and why did her publicist let her walk out onto the red carpet like this?! Was the lighting in her dressing room too poor to allow her to access the situation of this outfit? Have some class Ms. Thornton!

3. Emma Watson:

Alright. Sashay, but don’t lift with the hands!! Oh, no!! Emma?! Didn’t they teach you how to present yourself as a proper lady in England? This little mishap occurred at the 2009 Harry Potter premiere. Thankfully, she too wore underwear.

4. Katherine Heigl:

Betcha didn’t recognize her as a brunette!! However, that does not hide the fact that her left boob almost fell out of her dress on stage at the ShoWest convention in Las Vegas in March 2010. The strap of her scarlett dress slipped off while accepting an award on live television! Forget The Scarlett Letter. Five stars for The Scarlett Ta-ta!

5. Micaela Schaefer:

I don’t know what she was trying to prove by showing up to the May 2012 premiere of Men in Black 3 in an outfit like that. It seems as if Micaela got into the wrong limo and ended up on the red carpet instead of the strip club! Apparently the dress was made of VHS tape. Very creative, Micaela, but also very slutty.

Interestingly, none of these extremely embarrassing wardrobe malfunctions happen to men. What’s going on ladies?! Get it together and wear decent, form fitting, elegant clothing!

Who do you think will rebel against the CBS Grammy’s dress code Sunday night?
