Wardrobe Wednesdays: Rihanna @ JFK Airport

rihanna celeb style

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a person look so cozy in a coat before.

Rihanna was spotted at JFK Airport yesterday, January 17th, wearing a tan colored reversible shearling coat, ripped boyfriend jeans, and brown boots.

I myself am not one to try rocking a pair of distressed jeans (mainly because I grew up with my dad shunning the heck out of them and now I just can’t bring myself to buy a pair), but I must say, these look particularly ripped, baggy, and comfy.

And that coat is just a dream. Really. I wouldn’t mind having the weather drop to the negatives if I had a coat like that.

Check out the original jacket Rihanna wore below (marked with *) and a few other items inspired by the look.

Coat:

1. Barneys $7,295.00 *

2. HSN, $99.95

Jeans:

3. Forever 21, $32.90

4. ASOS, $32.50

Boots:

5. 6pm, $43.99

6. American Eagle Outfitters, $19.99

Exclusive #DopeArt2 Interview With Artist Henry J Fuller

"Beyoncรฉ XO" and "Lil' Red Riding Rihanna"

“Beyoncรฉ XO” and “Lil’ Red Riding Rihanna”

If you love pop culture, then your heart will burst with excitement when you see Henry J Fuller’s artwork. On March 24th, his #DopeArt2 exhibit opened at Hofstra University’s student run FORM Gallery, and even though I couldn’t make it, I can imagine how much everyone loved the paintings.

"Oh Miley"

“Oh Miley”

#DopeArt2 is the sequel to Fuller’s #DopeArt exhibit featured in FORM Gallery during the Fall 2013 semester. #DopeArt focused more on the male Hip-Hop scene, while #DopeArt2 lends a hand to some of the leading ladies in the music industry. The exhibit includes paintings of Miley Cyrus, Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, and Rihanna. Also thrown into the mix are portraits of Michael Jordan, and a scene from the popular television series Breaking Bad.

I was lucky enough to catch up with the artist behind all this pop culture magic a few days after #DopeArt2‘s opening reception.

Me: What was your inspiration for this exhibit?ย

Henry Jordan Fuller: My inspiration for #DopeArt2 was the introduction to myย #DopeArtDivas collection. In my first #DopeArt exhibit I mainly focused on male Hip-Hop artists with a lot of tattoos as well as top name male Hip-Hop artists in the industry. So for my 2nd showcase, I kind of wanted to focus on popular females in the industry as well as expand the size of my canvases from 18×24 to 24×36.

Me: How long did it take to finish each painting?

HJF: Usually it takes me at least a week to do a painting, but my showcase was pushed forward a whole month, so I did six out of seven of the #DopeArt2 collection within 2 weeks, each taking between 1-3 days.

Me: What is your favorite part of the exhibition process?

HJF: My favorite part of the exhibition process is creating detailed portraits of popular celebrities that can easily catch any onlookers attention.

Me: Which painting is your favorite?

HJF: By far my favorite portrait of my whole #DopeArt2 collection is my 36×48 Breaking Bad portrait entitled “Scavenger Hunt”. Breaking Bad is my favorite show, and I really enjoyed creating this piece.

“Scavenger Hunt”

Me: How did you come up with such cool titles for your paintings?

HJF: All of my titles were added on last minute, but I just wanted to create catchy titles that fit both the painting as well as the artists’ careers. The [Michael Jackson portrait’s] title “I Got my J’s Tho” is just a popular saying among sneaker collectors. All of my titles were thought of last minute.

Me: Will you be selling and/or have you sold any of these paintings? If so, for how much?ย

HJF: The only portrait from this collection that I’ve sold is my “I Got my J’s Tho” Michael Jordan portrait, and that was for $700, which is my highest selling painting thus far. I do a lot of commissions, so I’m not in a rush to get rid of these portraits, but I do plan to sell for around the same, with the exception of my “Scavenger Hunt” Breaking Bad portrait which I would like $1300 for.

Me: Anything else you’d like to add?

HJF: Follow me on Instagram to keep up with my latest artwork @kinghpromo & @dopeart___

Amanda Bynes vs Rihanna Twitter Feud

rihanna and amanda

So I guess this is what happens when a child star retires at 26.

Amanda Bynes has hit rock bottom.

And she just won’t stop rolling downhill.

Between the head shaving, the dimple piercings, the nose job, the weight loss, and her recent bong-throwing arrest, it doesn’t look like its going to stop any time soon.

Twitter doesn’t seem to be helping either.

Just yesterday, Amanda wrote on Twitter:

@rihanna Chris Brown beat you because you’re not pretty enough

Wow.

Where did that come from?!

Before this tweet, she wrote, “@rihanna you look so ugly trying to be white.”

Unless I’ve been missing something, I don’t remember any communication between Amanda and Rihanna before these insane tweets.

So this was completely random.

Rihanna did not turn the other cheek on this one.

She tweeted: “ya see what happens when they cancel Intervention?”

Amanda wrote back: “@rihanna unlike ur fugly faced self I don’t do drugs! U need the intervention dog! I met ur ugly face in person! U aren’t pretty u know it!”

These tweets have been deleted from Amanda’s Twitter, but the power of screen capture has salvaged them.

The only logical explanation for Amanda’s seemingly random tweet to Rihanna could be the rumored romance between Drake and Rihanna a few years ago.

It’s still possible that she wants Drake to “murder her vagina.”

Amanda went way too far with this one. Implying that a person deserves to be beaten because of the way they look is very disrespectful.

Thankfully, Rihanna isn’t naive enough to believe Amanda’s comments.

Imagine if this tweet was sent to a girl with low self esteem issues. This could have driven her to commit suicide.

Amanda’s mental health is clearly not where it needs to be.

Someone needs to help this girl before things take a turn for the worst!

This Week in Music: Mike Tompkins’ “Shake the Ground”

Wednesday, April 24, 2013 was a big day for Mike Tompkins.

Why?Shake the Ground

The genius of a musician released his first original single.

ORIGINAL.

NOT A COVER.

For those of you who have yet to meet the Canadian YouTube phenom, I’ll show you what this guy is about:

Yeah. His voice is his instrument. Literally.

He does covers like this regularly. Most of the songs he remixes with his mouth are of the pop genre, including Demi Lovato, Rihanna, and even Owl City.

You can imagine how excited his fans were when they learned of his original single.

The possibilities are endless when it comes to song beats, since he can rely on his own instrumentation. So would he choose a ballad or something fast paced? Heavy base or loud snare? Vocals or instrumental?

I was itching to know. So I went onto Spotify and listened.

And I loved it.

At first I was kind of disappointed. I stared at my computer thinking, no, Mike Tompkins can do way more than just a chorus of “Oh”s and a steady snare.

And then the beat dropped.

He went electronic on us.

Holy crap, that was unexpected!

“Shake the Ground” is a song about what it feels like to be in the party scene, or even on stage, where the flashing lights transform you.

He sings, “Somehow I feel born again tonight.” The feeling of bursting out of your own skin to show the world who you really are shines through in the lyrics of this song.

This song should definitely be on your next party playlist.

“Shake the Ground” probably describes exactly how Mike Tompkins felt when he performed his original song at Playlist Live.

The lyric video features scenes from his performance at Playlist 2013. No word of an official video yet.

Have a listen here. I dare you to challenge his Skrillex-like capabilities!

Strict Dress Codes on the Red Carpet

Showing off too much skin is a common 21st century problem. CBS is trying to do something to stop this problem at the 55th Annual Grammy Awardsโ€”for the duration of the show at least.

In the past there have been way too many females showing up to the red carpet half dressed. Yes, half dressed, because there is no way they finished putting all their clothes on. So for Sunday’s Grammy Award Show, no breasts, no butts, and no see-through clothing. To be exact, CBS asks that all “buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered.” They also request that all attendees make sure they do not arrive in see-through clothing and state that “thong type costumes are problematic.” Some are blaming Rihanna’s obscene sense of style at last year’s show for this ban.

Why would anyone want to feel so uncomfortable at a televised event? The red carpet wardrobe malfunctions are terribly embarrassing, and could have been avoided had these women chosen to cover up a bit more.

Here are a few of the most popular red carpet wardrobe malfunctions.

wardrobe malfunctions

1. Anna Faris:

In May 2012, Anna Faris flashed the crowd at the premiere of The Dictator in London.ย  She wore a blood red low cut dress. The slit of this dress runs way too high. Anyone ever hear of a needle and thread?! Fortunately, Faris, unlike many other females, was wearing a pair of undies. Close one, Anna.

2. Melody Thornton:

Former Pussycat Doll Melody Thornton really succeeded in showing off her body in that dress during the Elle Women in Music event in April 2012. The material of this dress is completely see-through! How and why did her publicist let her walk out onto the red carpet like this?! Was the lighting in her dressing room too poor to allow her to access the situation of this outfit? Have some class Ms. Thornton!

3. Emma Watson:

Alright. Sashay, but don’t lift with the hands!! Oh, no!! Emma?! Didn’t they teach you how to present yourself as a proper lady in England? This little mishap occurred at the 2009 Harry Potter premiere. Thankfully, she too wore underwear.

4. Katherine Heigl:

Betcha didn’t recognize her as a brunette!! However, that does not hide the fact that her left boob almost fell out of her dress on stage at the ShoWest convention in Las Vegas in March 2010. The strap of her scarlett dress slipped off while accepting an award on live television! Forget The Scarlett Letter. Five stars for The Scarlett Ta-ta!

5. Micaela Schaefer:

I don’t know what she was trying to prove by showing up to the May 2012 premiere of Men in Black 3 in an outfit like that. It seems as if Micaela got into the wrong limo and ended up on the red carpet instead of the strip club! Apparently the dress was made of VHS tape. Very creative, Micaela, but also very slutty.

Interestingly, none of these extremely embarrassing wardrobe malfunctions happen to men. What’s going on ladies?! Get it together and wear decent, form fitting, elegant clothing!

Who do you think will rebel against the CBS Grammy’s dress code Sunday night?
