Jimmy Fallon took his infamous lip syncing battle to VidCon this year where hundreds of YouTubers gathered for conventions and fan meetups in California.

This battle showcased the talents of a wide array of YouTube favorites, including Mamrie Hart of “You Deserve A Drink,” Britain’s Mazzi Maz, Sam Pepper, Fred, Oli White and Alexa Losey.

The song lineup was pumpin’, with hits like Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy,” Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream,” Nicki Minaj’s “Superbass” and DJ Snake and Lil Jon’s “Turn Down For What.”

I think Mamrie did “Fancy” some justice. That curtsey at the “LA to Tokyo” lyric point was priceless.

Surprisingly, the YouTuber’s did well with “Superbass,” which, if you’ve heard the song, features some fast paced rap verses. Impressive.

Things got awkward when the song switched to “Teenage Dream,” and the YouTubers began serenading a cardboard cutout of Jimmy Fallon. I wonder whose idea that was…

Attempting to lip sync to “Turn Down for What” turned into a dance battle. A very interesting dance battle, I might add.

‘The X Factor’ Taping at Nassau Coliseum

Yesterday I went out to Long Island’s Nassau Coliseum with my friend Kristell to watch The X Factor taping.

1371667180750-1

I’ve never been part of a live audience before, so this was pretty exciting for me.

However, my excitement disappeared when the clock struck 1pm and they weren’t letting us in. The ticket told us to arrive by then, so we got there around 12:25pm. We didn’t actually go inside until about 2:25.

The sun was unbearably hot. The soles of my feet were killing me and there’s a tan line from my flats on both of my feet.

When we got inside I was starving, so I bought cotton candy. It cost me $6.75. Since when does cotton candy cost six freaking dollars and seventy-five cents?!

Once Kristell and I sat down and I put the cotton candy in my mouth, I got excited again.

Jay Flats pumped the crowd up while we waited for the judges to arrive. We “got rowdy” to Martin Solveig and Dragonette’s “Hello” and Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe.”

Then they did a sound check. Amy, a member of the crew, sang “Rollin’ on the River.” She was really good.

After the sound check came the camera check. Audience members either got really shy, excited, or did nothing when they saw their faces on the big screen. The elderly were most likely to do nothing when the camera focused in on them.

At around three, judges Demi Lovato, Paulina Rubio, and Kelly Rowland showed up. They began auditions without Simon Cowell.

Simon didn’t arrive until three auditions later. When he walked in, the Franco Sisters were on stage and they thought the screams and cheers were for them. Unfortunately, as soon as he opened his mouth I wished he had gone back to wherever he came from.

He blamed Demi for his lateness, saying that she texted him to be there at 3:30 instead of 3. How dare he!

Then he told the older Franco sister off. I won’t spoil that part for you, but I think that what he said to her was unnecessary.

The youngsters were definitely blowing us all away. The three to look out for are 13 year olds Hannah Johnson and Ashley, and 15 year old Isaiah Austin.

Another interesting performer was Steven, a 40 year old blueberry farmer from South Korea who moved to the US when he was 18. I wasn’t expecting him to be any good, but gosh did he shock us all with his audition! He sang “Wind Beneath My Wings” starting at the final chorus. Wow is all I can say to that.

Then of course there were the trolls, Vincent and Tara. The sad part about the trolls is that they let them sing for longer than the people that can actually carry a tune.

During the breaks in between auditions, there was a girl in my section with a Demi poster that had lights on it who kept screaming Demi’s name at the top of her lungs. By 4:30 she hardly had a voice. But she just kept on screaming. And Demi just kept on ignoring her.

Overall my first experience as an audience member was okay. The waiting and the food prices were annoying, but otherwise I had a good time.

This Week in Music: Maroon 5’s “Love Somebody” Music Video

love somebodyA week ago, on May 14th, Maroon 5 released the fourth single off of their 2012 album Overexposed. Unfortunately, I only learned of this today.

“Love Somebody” is a song about longing to have a romantic partner.  The beat of the song is very calm, with a soft fluttering guitar rift throughout and a medium paced tempo held by the bass drum.

In the chorus, Adam Levine sings,

“I really wanna love somebody
I really wanna dance the night away
I know we’re only half way there
But you take me all the way, you take me all the way
I really wanna touch somebody
I think about you every single day
I know we’re only half way there
But you take me all the way, you take me all the way.”

It’s all very sweet and romantic.

The lyrics really capture what it feels like to be alone right from the beginning of the song, singing, “I know your insides are feeling so hollow. And it’s a hard pill for you to swallow.”

Hard pill to swallow indeed. Especially when your throat isn’t fully intact!

The video features the band, Adam Levine, and a mystery woman (actress Gemma Palombo), in all white, camouflaging with the white backdrop. As they touch themselves, or as someone touches them, a gray paint covers their body, revealing them little by little.

It’s creepy and sexual at the same time.

How did they come up with this idea? Is it because in the lyrics it says, “I know we’re only half way there but you can take me all the way”? Halfway as in half composed?!

I’ve loved this song ever since first hearing it during the summer of 2012. Never did I ever think the video would be like this.

I even sent the video to my friend this morning, an Adam Levine lover, and she responded:

“The f*** is this sh*t?!”

So I’m not the only one.

All you Adam Levine fangirls, watch out, because you’re gonna wish you were Gemma Palombo being touched by Adam Levine, especially when she pushes him onto that chair.

Jesus.

One thing I don’t really understand about the video is the fact that towards the end, Adam Levine and Gemma Palombo both work to erase the paint on her so she disappears.

Why would he want to erase her if he’s singing that he wants to love somebody?!

Perhaps its because “If [he] fall[s] for [her he’ll] never recover” and “never be the same”?

Or maybe he realizes that she doesn’t want to “stay, stay with [him] tonight”…

Either way, enjoy the video. Don’t let it creep you out too much.
