Fan Art Fridays: Superman

Happy Good Friday!

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is in theaters this wonderfully sunny day. As a result, Syfy is showing all of the Superman movies, which is totally cool with me.

Apparently the critics aren’t really loving Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice . The negative reviews have been rolling in since Thursday afternoon.

Anyhow, I’ve decided to feature all three actors that have played Superman for this week’s Fan Art Fridays. Enjoy artist Sam Gilbey’s rendition of Christopher Reeves, Brandon Routh, and Henry Cavill as Superman!

Are you going to see Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice this weekend? If you do, let me know what you think!

Fan Art Fridays: Tris Prior from the ‘Divergent’ Series

tris prior fan art

Allegiant, the last film of the Divergent series, is out in theaters today.

As with all book series that become films, this is another bittersweet end to a great trilogy. I cannot wait to see what’s next for Shailene Woodley, who plays the main character Tris Prior.

I got a Fandango gift card at the end of last year that I cannot wait to use when I go see the film next week. The only reason I’m waiting until next week is because I want to get a good seat in the theater once the rush dies down!

I picked this piece of fan art of Tris Prior by Kim Beurre Lait on Deviant Art for this week’s Fan Art Fridays because I’m so amazed at how much it really looks like Tris. If looks could paralyze, this piece of fan art would have done it.

View the original fan art here, and enjoy an Allegiant trailer below.

What do you do on Valentine’s Day when it’s 21° F but feels like -10 ° F outside and you don’t want your Valentine to get frostbite?

Stay inside with a book or a movie!

Although his personal romantic life may be a bit of a mess right now, Nicholas Sparks is one of the most romantic storytellers of all time. His romances will warm your heart, whether in book form or on the flat screen TV in your living room.

So grab a blanket for two, a bottle of wine and cuddle up with your Valentine, because it’s time to celebrate Valentine’s Day 2016, Nicholas Sparks style. Here are four books and movies by the author that’ll put the sap in sappy romance.

1. The Last Song (2010)
Starring Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth as Ronnie Miller and Will Blakelee.
For those of you who miss the old Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth pre-Gale Hawthorne, this one is a must watch. Animal lovers reading the book or watching on screen will fall in love with the sea turtles they rescue on the beach.

Fan Art Fridays: Elf‘s Buddy and Jovie (Will Ferrell & Zooey Deschanel)

elf buddy and jovi

Merry Christmas, everyone!

I stayed up last night watching Elf and felt obliged to post fan art from the movie because today’s Fan Art Fridays falls on Christmas!

This piece of fan art was done by illustrator Jim McHugh. I just love how cartoon-ish Buddy and Jovie look up a the North Pole. Jovie really looks like Zooey!

If you like this Elf fan art so much that you wish you could hang it in your room, then, you’re in luck because you can! Order the art from mcillustrator on Etsy with an added quote from the movie.

Fan Art Fridays: Jesse Eisenberg

This weekend, the film American Ultra is out in theaters. The film’s character Mike Howell is played by Jesse Eisenberg, who had to grow his hair out really long for the part.

It’s so awkward seeing him with long hair.

It’s one thing to see Jesse Eisenberg with straight hair instead of his natural curly hair, but straight and uber long?

I’m just happy he went back to the short curliness after filming.

After being weirded out by Jesse’s hair in the trailer for American Ultra on television all week and seeing posters for the movie in pretty much every subway station, I gave in and decided to dedicate this week’s Fan Art Fridays to him.

This piece of fan art was created by artist Maartje van Hoorn. This is as much toying with Jesse Eisenberg’s hair as I can tolerate. Short and straight is fine if it’s not going to be short and curly.

You can find the original fan art here.

Fan Art Fridays: RIP Robin Williams

July 21, 1951-August 11, 2014

In honor of the anniversary of Robin Williams’ death this week last year, I’ve decided to feature a piece of fan art of the great legend.

I found this fan art on Illustration Works. I really like the fact that a few of the characters he played in movies like Mrs. Doubtfire and Goodwill Hunting are featured in the piece as well.

The art was created by Emily Stepp. You can view the original here.

Rest in peace, Robin Williams.

Bradley Cooper Works at Burger King for a Weekend

Turns out the hottie can flip it!

On Sunday, Bradley Cooper was spotted working a shift at Burger  King in Leicester Square, London. Why, you ask? To train for his upcoming role as a chef in the film, Adam Jones.

“Bradley was training alongside genuine Burger King staff,” a source told The Sun. “The aim was to learn the art of the flip, which he nailed fairly quickly. There was no real fanfare from him. You’d never know he was a big star by the way he spoke to people. He spent Sunday night learning the skills while the restaurant was open to the public and then filmed for most of the day on Monday.”

Those were some lucky little British Burger King customers!

Adam Jones, directed by John Wells, will also star 50 Shades of Grey male lead Jamie Dornan, Uma Thurman, Sienna Miller and Emma Thompson.

According to The Wrap, the film is about a big shot chef who returns to London in search of a third Michelin star after giving up his career for a few years.

Filming is set to be completed by the end of September.

I’m just mad that he wasn’t training for this role in NYC. Hmph.

This Week in Music: Taylor Swift’s “Sweeter Than Fiction”

sweeter than fiction

Taylor Swift has a new song featured on the One Chance soundtrack called “Sweeter Than Fiction”!

If anyone is going to write a sweet little song about life, Taylor Swift is your girl for the job.

The film about Britain’s Got Talent winner Paul Potts, directed by Simon Cowell, comes out in the UK on October 25th, 2013.

Luckily, the song “Sweeter Than Fiction” is already out for your listening pleasure.

“Sweeter Than Fiction” is a medium tempo tune with lots of guitar and drum beats.

The intro is a lovely melody of major chords that sound full of triumph and hope.

The instrumentation of the rest of the song is nothing out of the ordinary, but the lyrics are heartwarming.

The lyrics of “Sweeter Than Fiction” take listeners through the doubts and triumphs of success. The second part of the first verse is beautifully written, as she sings,

Seen you fall, seen you crawl on you knees (eh, eh)
Seen you lost in a crowd, seen you colors fade
Wish I could make it better
Someday you won’t remember,
This pain you thought would last forever and ever (Verse 1, Part 2)

The bridge of the song reminds us all why we love Taylor’s voice so much, as the beat slows down a bit and she drags some of the words out legato:

I’ll be one of the many saying
Look at you now, look at you now, now
I’ll be one of the many saying
You’ve made us proud, you’ve made us proud, proud

And when they call your name
And they put your picture in a frame
You know that I’ll be there time and again
‘Cause I you loved when… (Bridge)

The way the drum takes over in the instrumentation of the last few lines of the bridge brings a nice touch of sentiment to finale of the song, in which Taylor sings the first part of the first verse again.

I hope this song actually plays during the film and not just the end credits.

Or worse: I hope its not just for the soundtrack. That would be a shame to waste such a beautifully written song when it could well be played in the film itself.

Enjoy the track!

Emma Watson: “They didn’t think I should act…”

Imagine a world without actress Emma Watson.

Emma Watson (57)

I don’t think anyone would like that world very much.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Emma Watson discusses how some of the people in her life lead her to believe she shouldn’t continue acting after the Harry Potter franchise was over.

“For a while I kind of bought into the hype of, ‘Will they ever be able to play anything else?’ It gave me a sense of paralysis and stage fright for a while,” she said in the interview. “And then a professor told me that they didn’t think I should act, either. So I was really grappling with it and wasn’t feeling good about it. And then, I don’t know…it got so bad and people had put me in a box so much that it started pissing me off. I suddenly wanted to prove them wrong. It gave me fuel, in a way. I’m not sure why that shift happened.”

hermoine granger

Emma Watson as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film series, 2001-2011

After ten years in the Harry Potter film series, it became difficult for many to picture her playing any other role but Hermione Granger.

“I wanted to make a conscious adult decision that [acting] was what I wanted to pursue, because that decision was made for me as a nine-year-old. I had no idea what I wanted. I had no idea who I was really. So I wanted to step away and make sure this is what I wanted to pour my life and my energy and my blood, sweat, and tears into,” Watson said in the interview.

Emma Watson got back to acting in 2012. “I was really unsure, but then I read the script for The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and falling in love with that and then having such a great experience on that movie kind of sealed the deal for me.”

Although I’m not much of a Harry Potter fan, I really enjoyed seeing Emma Watson play Sam in The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I cried at the end of that movie. That’s how amazing the actors performed for that film.

I can’t fathom any other actress filling the role of Sam in that film. It wouldn’t have been the same if Sam were to be played by anyone other than Emma Watson.

Since then, Emma Watson has gone on to play Nicki Moore in The Bling Ring (2013) and a fictional version of herself in the film This is the End (2013).

Don’t ever stop doing what you do, Emma. You’re an amazing actress. Never let anyone let you believe otherwise.

‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Film Has a Director and Release Date!

Woohoo!!

Even though I have only finished the first book of E.L. James’ trilogy, I am excited for the progress towards the production of this film. 50ShadesofGreyCoverArt Last week we learned that the film will be directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson. You may not recognize her name but you might recognize her husband, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, from Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging, Kick-Ass and Anna Karenina. He’s 23 and she’s 46.

Yeah.

That woman has been given permission to direct this film.

This should be interesting.

She has directed the film Nowhere Boy, which is how she met Aaron Taylor-Johnson, as he starred in the film.

Fifty Shades of Grey is set to be released on August 1st, 2014.
Update: Release date moved to Valentine’s Day 2015.

Universal Studios is rumored to be casting Anastasia Steele first. The actresses most rumored/wanted are Alexis Bledel, Felicity Jones and Alicia Vikander. I personally want Alexis Bledel to play Ana Steele so badly because ever since hearing that she is a possible pick for the role I can’t imagine her being played by anyone else but Alexis.

alexis bledel

Alexis Bledel

She’s innocently shy but smart, just as Ana is in the books, and she has the exact features that are required to play the role.

For Christian Grey, rumored actors are Robert Pattinson, Ian Somerhalder and Matt Bomer. If Matt Bomer doesn’t play Christian Grey, I won’t watch the film in theaters. That’s right. I’ll boycott. Matt Bomer is drop dead sexy, as is Christian Grey, and he also has the perfect features to play the role.

Matt Bomer

Matt Bomer

Some say he’ll feel uncomfortable in the role since he’s gay, but he plays perfectly straight in White Collar. This shouldn’t be a problem for him. And come on. Who doesn’t want to hear those words, “Laters, baby”, slide off of Matt Bomer’s lips?!

But for now we shall just wait and see who gets cast.

Meanwhile I’ll share with you an unofficial trailer featuring my two choices for the lead roles.
