Photo Diary: I Graduated!

grad

I’ve waited 16 years of my life for this moment.

On Sunday, December 21st, 2014, I walked proudly across the stage for my Bachelor’s degree in journalism. At 20 years old, I’m a happy little lady!

I was lucky enough to find two of my fellow journalism colleagues, DJ and Tatiana, before the commencement ceremony began, so we got to sit together for the 2 1/2 hour long shebang.

After the ceremony, I took some fun pics with my friends and family.

I should have made a funny face too, but DJ didn’t warn me!

I can’t say I’m not going to miss Hofstra. I’ll miss everything about that campus, from the people I met, to the froyo at the campus’ Red Mango, all the way down to the Hofstra kitties.

So long, Hofstra, and to my fellow colleagues graduating in the spring of 2015, I wish you all the best!

Jane Lynch and Lara Embry Getting Divorced

When I saw the news on my Twitter feed this morning I was in such shock that my retainer broke in my mouth when I gasped.

At least I think that’s why it broke…

lynch and embry

The lesbian couple of three years, Glee actress Jane Lynch and clinical psychologist Lara Embry, are getting divorced. Lynch announced the sad news yesterday, June 10th.

Say it ain’t so!

Lynch and Embry met at a fundraiser back in 2009.

“We actually have a picture of the moment we met,” Jane Lynch said three years ago. How romantic!

“I said, ‘I want my picture taken with her,’ ” Dr. Lara Embry remembered. “I thought she was cute.”

They got married in Sunderland, Massachusetts at the Blue Heron Restauran back in May 2010, and now they’re calling it quits.

I guess the cute didn’t last very long.

Sigh.

52 year old Lynch stated that the decision to divorce was a difficult one for the couple. I wonder if their age difference played a role in this (Embry is 44).

I guess Nelly Furtado is right when she sings “all good things come to an end.”

My heart goes out to their two girls, Chase and Haden.

May this divorce be a  stress free and tranquil one for the family.

Dissing the Jenners

kendall jenner Recently it seems like Hollywood can’t stop picking on the Jenners!

This past week, Kendall Jenner took to Twitter to let go of some steam, tweeting:

“Just wish things could be easier sometimes mann.”

Kurt Cobain’s daughter, Frances Bean, felt the need to address Kendall’s tweet, stating:

“I’d rather be a scumbag than a f–king idiot. Praise high IQ’s, good taste & awareness about the state of the world.”

Ouch!

But that wasn’t all. That tweet has been deleted from Frances’ Twitter, but a few others remain:

@KendallJenner oh shh. There are kids on earth abandoned & homeless who forcibly drink contaminated water because clean water isn’t accessible.

@KendallJenner oh ya, not to mention, CANCER, famine, poverty, draught, disease, natural disasters, Death. Fuck, Humans are so self involved.

I’d like to thank my parents for providing me with a high IQ & I’d like to thank my grams for encouraging me not to be a self absorbed idiot.

It is true that Kendall Jenner is better off than most 17 year-old girls in this world.

However, I don’t think Frances had the right to lash out on her like that. We all have bad days when we feel like the world is crashing down on us, privileged or not.

And Kendall used that argument to defend herself.

But Frances still wasn’t having it.

She continued the Twitter feud, tweeting:

@KendallJenner everyone’s problems are relative and I in now way meant to demean you’re issues but publicly complaining about how hard your

@KendallJenner life is, is completely self serving. It’s asking for attention. If you are feeling like shit talk to someone who you trust

@KendallJenner as opposed to fishing for sympathy from your followers. I don’t know you nor do I think ur a bad person.

@KendallJenner I believe that venting about ones problems via the Internet is a blatant cry for attention. We all have experienced pain

@KendallJenner i try to deal w/ pain in a manner that pertains to my real life not in a way where strangers throw me a pity party.

@KendallJenner To each their own though man. It’s not my life, live it in whatever manner you want to.

Now, here is where I agree with Frances. Too many people have gotten comfortable using social media as an online diary. Got a bad grade on a test? Post in on Facebook. Stuck in traffic? Complain about it on Twitter. Waiter messed up your order? Take a picture and put it on Instagram.

It may not be that you’re looking for pity, but that’s what it comes off as. People will see your complaints and either respond or ignore them.

What ever happened to talking it out with kith and kin?

I’m sure Kendall has a great support system amongst the Kardashian/Jenner family. She can surely vent to one of them.

No need to post on Twitter and fuel a war with Frances.

Hopefully Frances has calmed down about this, though.

Kendall isn’t the only Jenner getting heat. Her mother, Kris Jenner, is being criticized by Sharon Osbourne for “pimping out her children” to make kris jennermoney and become famous.

What?

I think “pimping” is the wrong word here. She helps her children, Kim, Khloe, and Kourtney with their clothing store, Dash, and Rob with his sock collection. Kendall and Kylie are models.

I don’t ever recall her selling them for sex.

Sharon goes on to say that Kris Jenner’s upcoming talk show is “going to bomb harder than Ricki Lake’s one season flop.” She can’t wait for the trainwreck apparently.

Kris fought back saying that Sharon is only clinging to her husband for fame and her show “The Talk” is boring.

I don’t know what’s going with these two but it doesn’t look pretty.

Hopefully these ladies figure things out before words become catfights.

Cute Love Quotes for Valentine’s Day

valentines day quotes

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, many of you will be getting cards for your special someone, friends and/or family members. What better way to personalize a card than a handwritten quote?! Here are a few love quotes that can be used for just about anyone during this celebration of love:

1. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

– 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (New International Version Bible)

For those of you who are of the Catholic or Christian religion, these verses are perfect for friends, family, and even a boyfriend or girlfriend. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 explains the Christian view of love. Even if you’re not religious, these verses speak volumes.

2. “There is always some madness in love. But there is also always some reason in madness.”

– Friedrich Nietzsche

It’s true that love can drive you mad. You would do the craziest, most out of this world thing(s) for the people that you love, and there will always be a reason for it. This quote is perfect for friends, spouses, and girlfriends or boyfriends.

3. “L is for the way you look at me
O is for the only one I see
V is very, very extraordinary
E is even more than anyone that you adore.”

– Nat King Cole

This little acrostic lyric is from Nat King Cole’s song “L-O-V-E”. It’s perfect for those old fashioned couples that love the 60s. The song has also been recorded in Italian, French, Spanish, German and Japanese!!

4. “…we accept the love we think we deserve.”

– Bill from The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

This quote will definitely make you think. What love really is it that you think you deserve? This quote was originally told to Charlie by his English teacher Bill in the 1999 novel The Perks of Being a Wallflower. This quote is perfect for just about anyone.

5. “…if you find someone you love in life, you must hang onto it, and look after it, and if you were lucky enough to find someone who loved you, then you must protect it.”

– Princess Diana of Wales

This quote is quite famous. Princess Diana said these words to her son William when he was a young boy. I remember watching Prince William and Kate Middleton get married on television that morning and one of the reporters recited the quote. It’s simply beautiful. This quote also works for anyone.

6. “…always hold on when you get love,
So you can let go when you give it.”

– Stars, “Hold on When You Get Love and Let Go When You Give It”

This quote is from the Indie Rock song by the band Stars called “Hold on When You Get Love and Let Go When You Give It”. It’s such a simple concept, but such a hard thing to do. This quote is perfect for a spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend.

7. “Lovers don’t finally meet somewhere. They’re in each other all along.”

– Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Rūmī

This very emotionally heavy quote comes from the Muslim theologian, poet and mystic Rūmī. To believe that your soulmate lives somewhere within you all your life is simply euphoric. This quote is one of my favorite for Valentine’s Day couples. It’s so romantic!

So don’t worry if you don’t have a Valentine this year. There are plenty of other people in your life that you can express your love and gratitude to using some of these awesome quotes!

Have a happy and safe Valentine’s Day 2013!
