Spring 2019 Carnival Fun Playlist

The weather is finally getting warmer in NYC, and I cannot wait until it’s consistently 60-70° F out!

Springtime brings the gorgeous weather, pretty flowers, and fun outdoor carnivals and fairs. I’ve created a spring playlist with a carnival theme for your spring enjoyment. From Ferris wheels to carousels, let’s take a ride with these ten carnival-themed songs:

1. Fairground, Leo Kalyan. “Lose your cares in the afterglow, and spin me around, round.”

2. Carousel, Skylar Spence. This tune will have you “spinnin’ like a carousel.”

3. Round & Round, Selena Gomez & The Scene. Don’t go getting dizzy on me now.

4. Mannequin, Britney Spears. Don’t “scream your lungs out” on that ride.

5. All That’s Left, Manila Killa ft. Joni Fatora. “When we go ’round and ’round on this carousel.”

6. Carousel (Bobby Green Remix), Melanie Martinez. Go ahead, just dance your way through spring with this beat.

7. Merry Go Round, Kacey Musgraves. Doesn’t Kacey go so well with a beautiful spring day at the carnival?

8. The Real Thing, Phoenix. “Turn the eternal carousel on.”

9. Reforget, Lauv. But whatever you do, don’t let your “head [spin] like a carousel, over and over.”

10. All Stars, Martin Sloveig ft. ALMA. A spring anthem.

Happy Spring!

Gallery Mondays: #MacysFlowerShow 2017 @ Macy’s Herald Sq

I somehow managed to squeeze some time in after work to navigate the maze that is Macy’s Herald Square in order to see the carnival-themed Macy’s Flower Show 2017.

I wasn’t able to see it last year (for reasons I cannot remember) but this year, I was determined to check it out, and I wasn’t disappointed.

The store’s street level and store windows were filled with floral arrangements, sculptures of carousel horses and clowns, and loads of other carnival-related display items. There were even unicorns!

My favorite was this spotted horse near Louis Vuitton. The flowers really brought its neutral colors to life. I can imagine how torturous it must have been for kids that were in the store with their parents, because even I wanted to hop on this horse for a ride around the carousel.

Learn more about the Macy’s Flower Show 2017, and check it out if you’re in Midtown before it closes on April 9th!

Photo Diary: Hofstra Fall Fest 2014

PicsArt_1411435533120

Oh, what a weekend September 19-21 was.

On Saturday, I attended the last Fall Festival at Hofstra that I will ever attend before becoming Hofstra alumni. The Vibe Live concert and carnival was a totally mind blowing trip through the 80s all the way to the future and back.

I took tons of photos to remember it by, so here’s a photo diary of the 2014 Hofstra Fall Festival and Vibe Live Carnival, featuring Rubix Qube, TLC, Matt & Kim and Janelle Monae!

Parade of Floats

This year, Hofstra student-run organizations created Disney-themed floats. Game of Thrones won first place!

Vibe Live Concert and Carnival

This year’s lineup was insane. Rubix Qube, 80s cover band made us reminisce, TLC made us proud to be 90s kids, Matt & Kim reminded us how cool it is to be weird and Janelle Monae put the electric in Electric Lady. The carnival rides were super fun, especially the Swinger in the cool September breeze.

Yes, that’s supposed to be Cher in FISHNETS. Cue male stage hands with smartphone cameras.

I can imagine the person in that spacesuit melted from the heat. Honestly, that must have been torturous.

Electric Ladayyyyyyayayyyy!

I had way too much fun over the weekend. Why did it have to end?

Thank you, Hofstra University for bringing such awesome talent to homecoming over the past three years!

This Week in Music: Jonas Brother’s “Pom Poms” and Matthew Koma’s “One Night”

The first week of April 2013 has brought to us the music of the Jonas Brothers and Matthew Koma.

pom poms and one night

Truth is, I miss the Jonas Brothers. Back in 2007 I was one of those thirteen year old girls who fangirled about anything and everything Jonas. But then they died out. And now they’re trying to come back. I worry that this comeback will be unsuccessful.

Matthew Koma is slowly becoming one of my favorites. I loved his voice in Zedd’s “Spectrum” and his song “Parachute” is amazing. I was really happy to find out he was releasing a new track this week.

And now for the assessment.

JoBros!! What happened?! I used to love these guys so much, with their heartfelt lyrics, sexy vocals and hair raising guitar rifts. “Pom Poms” lacks all three of these qualities!

The video, on the other hand, was quite entertaining. I loved the choreography (this is the first Jonas Brothers video with dancers I believe). Those female dancers have some serious skills! The kid in the milkshake scene was humorous. I also thought the choir was very interesting to see popping up every now and then. I’m kind of confused though, as to why that band player at the end does the bridge, hitting his hat smack down on the grassy field as a result. Weird.

There might be hope for these guys. Might.

And, Nick, please, please let your sexy curls grow back. You’re really starting to creep me out with that shorter cut you’ve been sporting around. I used to drool over Nick’s curls, hoping that one day I’d marry him and watch them turn gray. Sigh. Those days are long gone.

Matthew Koma does some interesting things with the lyrics for “One Night.” I love how he sings the chorus. He makes the song so fun with his cool vibrato and calm vocals. The play on words in the line “In a white Mercedes that bends me to the grave” is just brilliant. The bubble gum metaphor is also genius. I can’t stop myself from singing along when it goes “Chew my love under your tongue like it’s your bubblegum. Just spit me out when it becomes more than fun.”

The music video was a bit odd though. I wish there were better visuals of the carnival, because the bell sounds in the intro of the song remind me of carnival scenes. The part where Matthew Koma touches that guy’s mustache was hilarious. Those crazy teens with the ginormous bubble and the firework were just awkward.

Maybe I’m being a bit to harsh, but I think “One Night” won me over. I’m sorry Jonas Bros, but I will not be putting my pom poms down for you guys. Get it together JoBros!
