Kelly Clarkson’s Jane Austen Gold Ring Fiasco

Vaizey and Clarkson

Once upon a time, Kelly Clarkson bought British writer Jane Austen’s gold ring at a Sotheby’s auction.

For over £150,000 ($228,000 USD).

That’s a large amount of British pounds there!

However, the odds don’t seem to be in Kelly Clarkson’s favor with this ring.

The UK’s Culture, Communications and Creative Industries Minister Ed Vaizey placed a ban on the ring, preventing her from taking it out of the country.

Jane Austen’s ring

According to DailyMail, “the ring is one of only three surviving pieces of jewellery known to have belonged to the Pride and Prejudice author, having been given to her sister Cassandra and then passed down through the family before it was sold.”

Vaizey is hoping that a Brit will buy the ring so that the late author’s jewel stays in the UK.

“Jane Austen’s modest lifestyle and her early death mean that objects associated with her of any kind are extremely rare, so I hope that a UK buyer comes forward so this simple but elegant ring can be saved for the nation,” he said.

The ban expires on September 30th. If proof emerges of “a serious intention to raise funds” to match the price of the ring, the export license can be extended until December 30th.

So will that ring be leaving the UK before 2013 is over? Or will Kelly Clarkson have to leave the jewel in its native land?

If the Brits manage to keep the ring, at least Kelly still has that first edition copy of Austen’s novel “Persuasion” she also bought in the Sotheby’s sale.

Remember Kelly, “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger!”

This Week in Music: Selena Gomez’s Leaked “Love Will Remember”

What’s life without a little bit of leaked music, eh?

love will remember

Yesterday, Selena Gomez’s song “Love Will Remember”, which will be released on the Stars Dance album on July 23rd, got leaked.

She doesn’t seem that upset about it either. She embraced it, posting a video to her YouTube sending fans to the song via Soundcloud link.

Yay?

The big hype about this song is the fact that the intro features a voicemail. Said voicemail might be a real voicemail from her ex Justin Bieber.

Well.

I will admit that it does sound like Bieber. And its a pretty sweet message.

Is it wrong that this little detail reminded me of that article I read on Hollyscoop about Justin Bieber (aka Bitter Bieber, haha) banning all Selena Gomez songs from his photoshoot?

I bet this song is at the very top of his banned list now!!

Selena Gomez admitted to InStyle that the song is about Bieber. “That’s the most personal track on the record, for sure. I think it’s a sweet way of releasing it. It’s not an aggressive approach to what people are probably expecting,” she said.

“Love Will Remember” is a ballady type song. It’s not too slow, but the tempo is light enough to evoke more of an appreciation for the lyrics.

I think the lyrics are the best part of this song. Writers Antonina Armato, Desmond Child, David Jost and T. James did a mighty fine job of working with Selena to create such profound lyrics.

My favorite lyrics from the song are the first verse and the bridge. I especially like the part that goes:

Now’s all we got,
And time can’t be bought,
I know it inside my heart
Forever will forever be ours…

I also really like the bridge where Selena Gomez sings, “Somewhere in forever we’ll dance again.”

So romantic! Brings a tear to my eye!

I think the underlying “Oh”‘s in the chorus are a nice touch as well.

I’m not going to lie, I didn’t really like the song too much when I heard it the first time. It took three listens to really get into it.

Can’t wait to hear the rest of the album later this month!

Brangelina Wedding Guest List Concerns

brangelina

Like any bride, Angelina Jolie wants her wedding to be perfect.

So perfect that she would ban some of Brad Pitt’s friends from the wedding.

Jonah Hill, Quentin Tarantino, and Philip Seymour Hoffman are among the people she wants to ban.

George Clooney is getting a warning next to his name.

A source told The Sun that “Angelina wants the whole affair to be very civilised and is concerned about the habits of some of Brad’s more raucous friends. She thinks that if Jonah and Quentin come, they’ll hit the bar early on and cause a commotion.”

I don’t blame the woman. She probably doesn’t want her wedding to end up like The Hangover movies. Completely understandable.

I don’t think that’s going to fly very well with Brad, though.

I’m shocked at George Clooney’s warning. George doesn’t strike me as the type who would cause a commotion, which is probably why he’s just a red flag and not completely banned.

But then again, I don’t know him personally.

Maybe instead of banning them altogether, she could just make sure they are not allowed more than three drinks that night.

However, I’m not sure how well that would work.

I just hope that whatever happens, the two walk down the aisle happily, without any gripes pertaining to this issue.
