65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards

Emmy Award Trophy
Emmy Award Trophy

Last night, television celebrated the best in the business. The Emmys are the most upscale awards show of the year. From the elegant dresses to the sophisticated bow ties, everyone cleans up extremely nicely for the biggest celebration of primetime television. I always enjoy watching the Emmys for its entertainment shock value.

I will begin the recap with the evening’s best dressed:

Best Dressed:

Top to Bottom: Carrie Underwood, Jim Parsons, Stephen Colbert, Alyson Hannigan, Ana Faris

Top to Bottom: Tina Fey, Sofia Vergara, Robin Williams (and wife), Kaley Cuoco, Anna Gunn

Tina Fey, 30 Rock: I love the rich royal blue color of this dress and the way it hugs her body. Simply gorgeous.

Robin Williams. The Crazy Ones: Robin Williams looked super dapper in a suit and white tie. It’s refreshing to see at least one man with a different colored tie, as this event is usually a black tie affair.

Sophia Vergara, Modern Family: Sophia Vergara was the Emmys “Lady in Red” this year. Rumor has it she wore Kmart underwear beneath this dress. No lo creo!

Kaley Cuoco, The Big Bang Theory: Kaley Cuoco is rocking this rich plum colored dress! The detailing is fabulous.

Anna Gunn, Breaking Bad: This dress is simply incredible. I would pay good money to wear this to a special event. The lace bodice is just gorgeous!

Carrie Underwood: This one shoulder dress looks great on Carrie. The print on the dress is also a nice touch.

Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory: I just love the bow tie on Jim Parsons. It adds to his science nerd personality!

Stephen Colbert, The Colbert Report: You’ve gotta love this guy. I like the fact that he went with the pocket handkerchief accessory. I didn’t see too many guys with that this year.

Alyson Hannigan, How I Met Your Mother: This purple dress goes perfectly with her red hair. Great choice!

Anna Faris, Mom: I just love the simplicity of this yellow dress. The slit is also very sexy!

The Intro:

The Academy was especially lenient this year with host Neil Patrick Harris. The intro was hilarious.

The show began with Neil Patrick Harris trying to watch all of the primetime shows at once. As he sat in an igloo of television screens, he began to realize that the fictional television characters could see him. Things got critical when the judges from The X Factor and So You Think You Can Dance started to judge him for what he’s doing.

On stage, Harris decided to make a Paula Deen joke, referencing the new series Orange is the New Black. “Because, for Paula Deen,” he began, “orange is the new black. Not soon enough?”

I wonder if Paula Deen was watching…

As if Neil Patrick Harris wasn’t enough, Jimmy Kimmel, Jane Lynch, Jimmy Fallon, and Conan O’Brien also found their way onto the stage.

It got really uncomfortable when Jane Lynch and Neil Patrick Harris started making LGBT jokes.

“I’ll show you how much of a woman I really am. Right now,” Lynch said.

“I don’t think I’d like that very much,” Harris cringed.

“Me neither,” joked Lynch.

Yeah…

Tina Fey and Amy Phoeler sat front row wearing 3D glasses and eating from large bowls of popcorn. When Harris asked what the 3D glasses were for, they said that they wanted to see him up close in case he decided to do a strip tease.

“That would be very degrading,” said Harris.

“No. We’d be very degrateful,” said Phoeler.

Those girls are something else.

And now, for the highlights of the 2013 Emmy Award show.

The Highlights:

1. Nurse Jackie start Merrit Wever’s acceptance speech: “Ok, I gotta go.” (Best acceptance speech ever, according to Neil Patrick Harris)

2. Emily and Zooey Deschanel award presentation: Modern Family‘s “Dad, to gay dad, to old dad.”

3.  Jonathan Winters Tribute by Robin Williams

4. Are John Ham and Alec Baldwin really Neil Patrick Harris’ biological parents?

5. Tony Hale flaunting Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ clutch underneath his arm while on stage.

6. When Neil Patrick Harris said, “Jimmy Kimmel is excited to be presenting this next award with them…I mean her.” (Referring to Sophia Vergara’s boobs)

7. When Jimmy Kimmel said, “Laughter is the best medicine,” and Sophia Vergara countered that by saying, “If you went to the doctor sick and he told you to laugh you could sue him.”

8. How I Met Your Mother “Excessive Hosting Disorder” Skit. Hilarious.

9. Cory Monteith Tribute by Jane Lynch

10. “The Number in the Middle of the Show.” I didn’t know Nathan Fillion and Sarah Silverman could dance!

11. When Diahann Carroll said, “All the men in this room are so beautiful. I’m so happy to be here with all of you!”

12. Jeff Daniel’s Acceptance Speech. He started it off with, “Well crap.”

13. When the microphone kept moving up and down during Jimmy Fallon’s award presentation.

14. The Amazing Choreographers Dance Number. The “Get Lucky” parts were awesome!

15. James Gandolfini Tribute by Edie Falco
