Last Tuesday, June 12th, was the Museum Mile Festival in NYC, which many art and museum lovers know as the best three hours to be in on 5th Avenue in Upper Manhattan.

During the festival, a variety of museums along the 5th Avenue strip are free admission, including the MET, the Guggenheim, and The Jewish Museum. As you may have guessed, the smaller the museum, the less people can get in, so the line for the Guggenheim wrapped all the way around the block to Madison Avenue.

Needless to say, my friends and I did not bother waiting to get into the Guggenheim. Maybe next year.

We did get to visit the MET, Cooper Hewitt, and the Museum of the City of New York.

At Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, we came across this wicker chair called “Trans…Chair” by the Brazilian Campana Brothers (Fernando and Humberto). Part of a collection called TransPlastic, the chair is transformed with some interesting objects that have become attached to it.

This is one of those museum pieces you can’t just walk by and not stop to examine. I mean, come on, there’s a flip flop and a baby doll’s leg jutting out of the chair for crying out loud!
