In honor of Poem in Your Pocket Day, here’s a poem I wrote a few years ago called “An External Conversation.”
I
want
you.
I do.
Don’t say things like that…
It drives me crazy…
You’re so beautiful.
You’re not so bad, yourself.
No one’s ever said it so seriously,
so honestly,
so sincerely.
Truly, you’ve made me realize
the unimaginable
But have I done the same
for you?
I’ll always be in debt,
emotional debt,
in the red.
Does your heart ask the question?
If it does, then I do,
Yes,
I do.
The answer will always be
I do.
Time?
Do we really need time?
I’ll admit, I’m a bit delusional,
and you’ve gotta admit,
you’re a little too kind-hearted.
Patience is something I long for,
and the urgency stirs within me.
I just want you to understand that.
Happy Poem in Your Pocket Day 2017!
