Gallery Mondays: Marble sarcophagus lid with reclining couple

Marble sarcophagus lid with reclining couple MET museum 5th ave

Valentine’s Day is coming up this week, so I figured it would be fitting to have some couple-themed art on this week’s Gallery Mondays.

I saw this lovely ancient Roman sculpture of a reclining couple on Museum Mile Day last year while visiting the Met Museum on 5th Avenue in NYC. The sculpture is from the Severan period (specifically 220 AD). I actually went back to the Met this weekend but the section of the museum where this piece is exhibited is roped off, so you can’t get too close to it anymore.

Made of marble, the couple, who are supposed to symbolize water and earth, rests on a sarcophagus lid. The face of the woman is said to have not been finish because her husband died before her.

Heartbreaking.

When I first saw this, I thought that this was basically the ancient version of Netflix and chill. Like, come on. Tell me that pose isn’t similar to the way couples rest on the couch or bed for a Netflix session.

The Met has plenty more romantic sculptures like this one, so if you’re looking for a date idea that isn’t Netflix and chill, you should totally head there for a day at the museum with your boo!

You can still enjoy a your Netflix and chill after you get back home, though ūüėČ

January Favorites: Bathroom Wedding & Jonas Brothers Reunion?

January 2018 was rough.

I feel as though a lot of the music that came out in January was very nostalgic, more so than usual. It’s as if everyone is longing to go back to a simpler time. Thankfully we can, just not for longer than the length of your favorite nostalgic tunes (and the stretch of your imagination).

Let’s take a look at some of the things in pop culture and entertainment that made January 2018 a little less rough:

Favorite News Articles

1. A New Jersey couple got married in a bathroom. Because the show wedding must go on.

2. There might be a Jonas Brothers reunion?! Be still my 13-year-old fangirling, beating heart.

3. CVS bans makeup brands from Photoshopping makeup ads. I love it when CVS takes initiative on things like this.

4. The A train is finally getting a revamp. Thank you, MTA, for finally rewarding this tri-borough train with a well deserved new look. I think some other trains are also getting upgraded…

5. RIP Rosie the Riveter. You will be missed, but never forgotten as a symbol for fierce, hard-working women.

Favorite Music

1. “Song for You” by Rhye. I am a new fan. Perfect track for Valentine’s Day this month.

2. “Stay Here” by Henry Green. He always knows how to break me down with those somber melodies, man.

3. “The Good Side” by Troye Sivan. Troye went all folk on us!

4. Cause for Concern, De Lux. Loving the old-school Beetles-esque vibes on this track.

5. “Tension (Interlude)” by B√ėRNS.¬†Blue Madonna¬†as a whole is a great album, but this interlude definitely made it for me.

Favorite Celeb Instagrams

1. Viola Davis getting all done up for Jimmy Kimmel. I love her hair like this so much!

2. Lupita Nyong’o at the¬†Black Panther¬†premiere. SLAY.

3. Chrissy Teigen on a girls weekend in Upstate New York. Look at that baby bump ‚̧

4. JLo modeling some socks. Forget the socks, man. Look at that sweater and that hair!

Favorite TV Episodes

1. The Good Doctor, “Islands Pt. 2”.¬†That kiss was well waited for, and now I have to wait until they write a trip to see Lea into the show sometime in the (hopefully) near future.

2. grown-ish, “If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late.” At what point did her thumbs decide¬†not to tell her brain that she was sending waayyyyy too many text messages?!

3. Alone Together, “Pilot”. I love how awkward Esther is. It’s so cute it’s painful.

4. Bob’s Burgers, “V is for Valentine-detta”. Gotta love the way this episode begins. Also, Louise’s makeover had me screaming throughout the whole thing.

Favorite YouTube Videos
1. Nick Jonas on BBC Radio 1’s Heart Rate Monitor. Teenage me remembers that Selena Gomez incident. So cringey. Ugh.

2. Bath With Liza. Just when you thought she couldn’t act anymore crazy…

3. Maddie Ziegler does a clothing line haul. If I were a bit younger, I’d totally look into buying some of these.

The month of lovey-dovey is here.

Fan Art Fridays: ‘Fifty Shades Freed’

zipcy fifty shades fan art ana and christian grey

The last installment of the¬†Fifty Shades¬†series came out in theaters this weekend, basically revving up everyone’s Valentine’s Day yet again.

Although I haven’t seen any of the movies yet, I have read the trilogy and fully intend to read¬†Grey: Fifty Shades of Grey As Told by Christian sometime this year.

I’m pretty sure the film adaptation is very racy (it would be a waste if it weren’t, right?) and I kind of don’t want to watch them alone so I’m still waiting for the perfect moment to watch them.

Zipcy, an illustrator I recently found on Instagram posted some fan art of the film this morning, so I couldn’t resist featuring it on this week’s Fan Art Fridays. Inspired by the official movie poster for¬†Fifty Shades Freed,¬†the fan art features Ana and Christian Grey getting ready to do something hella raunchy!

I love how Zipcy turned this black and white grey poster into full color. It totally gives the image life, especially with the added the flowers in the right corner.

Wardrobe Wednesdays: Charlotte McKinney in LA

Charlotte McKinney style fashion in Los Angeles

Charlotte McKinney was spotted on the streets of Los Angeles looking head to toe gorgeous in red and white.

The model wore a crisp white blouse with a pair of shiny dark red leggings and tan suede pumps. She carried a small red bag in hand as well.

Notice how Charlotte McKinney is wearing that white blouse. Like, damn, girl. If you got it, flaunt it.

I love the shininess of the leggings. They really add a different texture to the outfit and amp up the wow factor!

Gallery Mondays: “Sea Dreams” by Peggy Mach

sea dreams peggy mach babylon library

I’ve been to the Babylon Library a handful of times while back home in Long Island, but I’ve never stopped to take a proper photo of this sculpture in front of the building.

Called “Sea Dream” the sculpture was created by Peggy Mach and donated to the Village of Babylon in 1983. In it, a boy sits barefoot on a ledge with a book in his lap, staring out into the void.

I love how blissful the look on his face is. He must be having a wonderful day dream about whatever book he’s reading.

Speaking of, what book¬†is¬†he reading? The scrawls on the book cover aren’t really legible.

I guess I’ll never know.

Valentine’s Day 2018 Spotify & Chill Mini Mix

For Valentine’s Day 2018, I’ve decided to collaborate with fellow blogger Tiffany Khyla over at Endless Bliss to make you lovebirds two lovey-dovey playlists!

Tiffany Khyla is a full-time hotel social media marketer and a part-time blogger at Endless Bliss, a happy lifestyle and entertainment blog for wanderers, dreamers and happiness seekers. On Endless Bliss, she shares her tales of working on a cruise ship, the ups-and-downs of living the Air Force lifestyle and her obsession with Harry Potter. She’s an ESFJ Sagittarius with a passion for people, exploring new places and getting lost in a good book. When she’s not busy behind a computer screen, you can find her singing along to every Taylor Swift song, stuffing her face with sushi or sipping on a glass of Cabernet.

You can check out her playlist here.

As for my playlist, which I’m dubbing “Spotify & Chill,” it starts out sappy and slow, then switches to a smooth groove toward the end.

So get cuddly with some wine and crank up the volume with this Valentine’s Day 2018 Spotify & Chill 8-track mini mix!

1. Song for You, Rhye. Because what kind of romantic chill session would this be without Rhye?

2. Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop, Landon Pigg. I can’t promise that this is as sappy as it gets. #Sorrynotsorry

3. Love is a Drum, Cider SkyIf you’re not lying close enough to hear the other person’s heartbeat then you’re doing it wrong.

4. Oh My Stars, Andrew Belle. “If everything you’ve said to me has been true, then all my stars are leading me to you.” ‚̧

Fan Art Fridays: Groundhog Day

groundhog day bill murray fan art etsy andyrama

Today is February 2, aka Groundhog Day, and, as usual, the groundhogs are not in consensus.

Punxatawney Phil in Pennsylvania saw his shadow, predicting we’ll have six more weeks of winter. Meanwhile, Staten Island Chuck here in New York City says spring is fast approaching. And then General Beauregard Lee in Georgia went and ruined the odds with his prediction that winter is definitely sticking around for a bit.

Sigh.

Once the winter is gone by May, I’ll be able to deal.

A few theaters in New York are showing the 1972 film Groundhog Day starring Bill Murray as Phil Connors this weekend to coincide with this yearly meteorological madness. I also found this fun watercolor inspired by the film on Etsy, painted by andyrama. The watercolor depicts the scene in the film where the groundhog takes the wheel during a car chase.

I don’t care how good you are at predicting the weather, buddy. I’m not letting a groundhog drive a car that I’m sitting in, much less during a car chase. That’s just not gonna fly with me.
