I was walking to South 4 Bar in Brooklyn for a Sob Sisters meeting that Ada Calhoun invited me to this evening when I stumbled upon this lovely street art next to Fabiane’s Cafe & Pastry Shop by Tom Bob (@tombobnyc on Instagram).
As if the dogs of NYC weren’t cute enough, now there’s six little pups immortalized in street art outside a cute Williamsburg cafe.
Tom Bob depicts the dogs against a New York City skyline with a red house behind them featuring a yellow bird on top. Very Charlie Brown-esque.
It’s little things like this that make me love stepping outside of Manhattan, even if just for an hour or two.
P.S. I think my favorite is wide-eyed Indigo, who appears to be a tan poodle!
In light of this baby news, I’ve decided to feature some fan art I found of the actress on Deviant Art by k-dezign. It appears to be inspired by a still of her character Kay Nesbitt in the film Married Life, which takes place in 1949.
I think this black and white sketch captures her essence perfectly. K-design definitely got her on her good side!
Over the weekend, celebrities broke out their best black award show attire for the 71st BAFTAs at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Ruth Wilson caught my attention with a super sophisticated Dior tuxedo suit, which I absolutely LOVE.
The actress paired the tuxedo suit with a embellished cream-colored sandals and a red lip, keeping with the polished yet fun award show vibe.
I’m totally in the market for a tuxedo suit for this upcoming spring season. I cannot get over how amazing the straight leg pant looks on Ruth Wilson!
Hi, I’m Nicole from Glamorously You! I am so excited to be joining forces with The Whisper Box to provide you with some Hollywood-style inspiration. I talk a lot about staying inspired in your life and career on Glamorously You, so it only made sense to add an element of the entertainment industry on top of that for this collaboration! So without further ado, here are the 5 most inspirational women in Hollywood right now.
We can’t talk about women in Hollywood right now without bringing up the #MeToo movement, and Reese Witherspoon has solidified her place as a supporter and activist. During the tidal wave of women coming forward with their stories of sexual assault, Reese bravely admitted that she too was violated by a director at only 16 years old. Since then, she has led the path for other women to come forward and tell their stories through the #TimesUp initiative.
Greta is definitely having her time in the spotlight this year, and hopefully it will last for a while. She has become the first women director to have her debut film be nominated for Academy Awards as well as becoming only the fifth woman to be nominated for Best Director in all of Oscar history. Her film Lady Bird has received critical acclaim and is considered to be one of the best films of 2017.
Based on her amazing pieces of work, you would think Ava DuVernay has been in the film industry for decades. Surprisingly enough, her early beginnings were in journalism and public relations! It wasn’t until 2006 that she decided to write and direct her first short film. 12 years later and she has become the first female African-American director to direct a live-action film with a budget of over $100 million! Ava’s story shows us that it’s okay to not have everything figured out at a young age – your destiny will always present itself!
If I had to give an award to the biggest breakout star of 2017, it would absolutely be Tiffany Haddish. She was the comedienne that we would all see from time to time in small or guest starring roles, but it was her role in the hit movie Girls Trip that catapulted her to leading lady stardom. Since then, she has starred in her own Showtime comedy special, written a memoir, The Last Black Unicorn, and is set to star in a sitcom with Tracy Morgan and a movie with Kevin Hart. This girl is busy!
I had to give a shout out to one of the many young women in Hollywood who are making a name for themselves right now. Yara is best known for her role as Zoey Johnson on black-ish and its spin-off, grown-ish, but recently we have seen her using that platform to launch herself as an activist. She has a mentoring program, Yara’s Club, and has just launched her latest initiative, Eighteen x 18, which is meant to inspire young people to use their power to vote in this year’s midterm elections. And she’s done all that before she celebrated her 18th birthday!
The past year was a rough one for not only women in Hollywood, but for women all over the world. However, it is times like these that bring out the brightest stars! Which woman in Hollywood is inspiring you the most right now?

The day that fans of the Marvel Universe have been waiting for is finally here! Black Panther is officially in theaters today, guys!
I am totally going to see it when the theater clears out of all the people that cannot wait to see it this weekend. Trying to be patient until the end of February is going to be hard, but I’m gonna do it.
I’m most excited to see Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia in the film. I found this really cool fan art of Nakia on Deviant Art while looking for something to feature on this week’s Fan Art Fridays.
Valentine’s Day is coming up this week, so I figured it would be fitting to have some couple-themed art on this week’s Gallery Mondays.
I saw this lovely ancient Roman sculpture of a reclining couple on Museum Mile Day last year while visiting the Met Museum on 5th Avenue in NYC. The sculpture is from the Severan period (specifically 220 AD). I actually went back to the Met this weekend but the section of the museum where this piece is exhibited is roped off, so you can’t get too close to it anymore.
Made of marble, the couple, who are supposed to symbolize water and earth, rests on a sarcophagus lid. The face of the woman is said to have not been finish because her husband died before her.
Heartbreaking.
When I first saw this, I thought that this was basically the ancient version of Netflix and chill. Like, come on. Tell me that pose isn’t similar to the way couples rest on the couch or bed for a Netflix session.
The Met has plenty more romantic sculptures like this one, so if you’re looking for a date idea that isn’t Netflix and chill, you should totally head there for a day at the museum with your boo!
You can still enjoy a your Netflix and chill after you get back home, though 😉
I feel as though a lot of the music that came out in January was very nostalgic, more so than usual. It’s as if everyone is longing to go back to a simpler time. Thankfully we can, just not for longer than the length of your favorite nostalgic tunes (and the stretch of your imagination).
Let’s take a look at some of the things in pop culture and entertainment that made January 2018 a little less rough:
4. The A train is finally getting a revamp. Thank you, MTA, for finally rewarding this tri-borough train with a well deserved new look. I think some other trains are also getting upgraded…
5. RIP Rosie the Riveter. You will be missed, but never forgotten as a symbol for fierce, hard-working women.
Favorite Music
1. “Song for You” by Rhye. I am a new fan. Perfect track for Valentine’s Day this month.
1. The Good Doctor, “Islands Pt. 2”. That kiss was well waited for, and now I have to wait until they write a trip to see Lea into the show sometime in the (hopefully) near future.
2. grown-ish, “If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late.” At what point did her thumbs decide not to tell her brain that she was sending waayyyyy too many text messages?!
3. Alone Together, “Pilot”. I love how awkward Esther is. It’s so cute it’s painful.
4. Bob’s Burgers, “V is for Valentine-detta”. Gotta love the way this episode begins. Also, Louise’s makeover had me screaming throughout the whole thing.
The last installment of the Fifty Shades series came out in theaters this weekend, basically revving up everyone’s Valentine’s Day yet again.
Although I haven’t seen any of the movies yet, I have read the trilogy and fully intend to read Grey: Fifty Shades of Grey As Told by Christian sometime this year.
I’m pretty sure the film adaptation is very racy (it would be a waste if it weren’t, right?) and I kind of don’t want to watch them alone so I’m still waiting for the perfect moment to watch them.
Zipcy, an illustrator I recently found on Instagram posted some fan art of the film this morning, so I couldn’t resist featuring it on this week’s Fan Art Fridays. Inspired by the official movie poster forFifty Shades Freed, the fan art features Ana and Christian Grey getting ready to do something hella raunchy!
I love how Zipcy turned this black and white grey poster into full color. It totally gives the image life, especially with the added the flowers in the right corner.
