Fan Art Fridays: Karla Souza

Continuing on with Hispanic celebs for National Hispanic Heritage Month, I decided to feature Mexican-American actress Karla Souza as Laurel Castillo on ABC’s How to Get Away with Murder for this week’s Fan Art Fridays.

Season 4 of the series premiered on Thursday night, and I’m not sure I’m going to be able to get though this season without having a series of small heart attacks.

Found on Tumblr, this piece of fan art by Laura Nickelle (Crowns of Reinvention) features a quote from the 8th episode of season 2, titled “Hi, I’m Philip” where Laurel is accused of being an entitled “MAP” (Mexican-American Princess).

“So I’m a princess just because I dared to disagree with you?” she snaps back, which is written on the fan art edit in clouds of gray and pink splatter.

Do you have a favorite Laurel Castillo quote? Let me know in the comments!

Wardrobe Wednesdays: Meghan Markle @ 2017 Invictus Games

Meghan Markle fashion 2017 Invictus Games opening ceremony

Looks like Meghan Markle isn’t only super stylish on screen as Rachel Zane in USA’s Suits.

The actress made her first appearance with boyfriend Prince Harry in Toronto on Saturday during the 2017 Invictus Games opening ceremony wearing head-to-toe burgundy.

She paired a pleated chiffon dress with a leather jacket and a suede clutch bag, all in a similar shade of burgundy. It’s so reminiscent of Pantone’s 2016 Color of the Year Marsala.

I would be so afraid to wear one color throughout, but Meghan Markle is definitely working this!

The original dress is sold out (no surprise there), but see below for the original jacket, marked by *, and some similar items to copy this look.

Jacket:

1. Wilson’s Leather, $269.99

2. Shoes.com, $690.00 *

Dress:

3. Abercrombie & Fitch, $78.00

4. ModCloth, $79.99

Bag:

5. Steve Madden, $24.99

Gallery Mondays: “Crazy From the Heat #2” by Beau LaBute

Happy National Comic Book Day!

I really wanted to feature comic book art in honor of National Comic Book Day today, but then I realized I don’t have any in my camera roll.

So, the closest piece of art I could dig up that looked similar to comic book art is this ink on paper drawing by Canadian artist Beau LaBute. I saw it almost 2 years ago at Printed Matter in Chelsea, New York City.

Boy, is it difficult to find anything about this piece, “Crazy from the Heat #2” on the internet! I’m still amazed that I was able to find anything on the artist!

There’s a lot going on in this ink on paper drawing, but two things stand out to me the most. The first is the man, cat, sheep combination going on in the top right corner of the piece. The second is actually more than one thing located in the top left section of the square sitting in the middle portion of the piece.

Yes, I’m talking about the four wine bottles. Does that make me a wino?

Although I couldn’t find much online about this piece, I did notice that LaBute created some similar artwork with artist Peter Thompson, as seen here, here, here, and here.

I wonder what “Crazy From the Heat #1” looks like, if it exists.

Wardrobe Wednesdays: Victoria Justice @ Rebecca Minkoff NYFW 2017 Show

Victoria Justice Rebecca Minkoff NYFW 2017

Let’s throw this back to NYFW almost two weeks ago, because I totally forgot about this killer floral number Victoria Justice wore to Rebecca Minkoff’s show on September 9, 2017.

The actress was head to two Rebecca Minkoff with a pair of chunky suede sandals and a long sleeve floral mini dress. I love outfits like this for weird summer to fall transition weather. It’s basically fall on top with the long sleeves and summer on the bottom with sandals!

I also really love this dark color scheme for fall, as it isn’t the traditional brown or orange theme. The blue and purple against the black dress are very easy on the eyes.

See below for the original dress and sandals (marked with *) as well as alternatives to steal this look.

Dress:

Left – Rebecca Minkoff, $228.00 *

Right – LuLu’s, $43.00

Sandals:

Top – Rebecca Minkoff, $131.00 *

Bottom – Stuart Weitzman, $455.00

Gallery Mondays: “A Night Out” by Billy

a night out billy big apple fest

Maybe if I post about fall-related things all week the weather will cool down in time for the first day of autumn on Friday.

A few months ago, I came across this really fun apple sculpture while walking through the Meatpacking District in NYC. Called “A Night Out” this ginormous acrylic apple by artist Billy sits right outside of the Dos Caminos location on Hudson Street.

After doing some research, I found that this is not the only apple sculpture that fell from the tree (I’m trying to be funny, bear with me).

Back in 2004, the Meatpacking District held a Big Apple Fest where artists decorated dozens of apple sculptures like the one pictured above to be scattered around NYC from August-October as public art and then auctioned to benefit charities.

Sadly, the Big Apple Fest didn’t catch on as an annual event. Help me refrain from wishing it wasn’t so.

Back to “A Night Out.” This sculpture is such a cool mix of cubism and pop art, which is the case for most of Billy’s work. The characters on it kind of remind me of the ones in the TV show Futurama. What I didn’t notice when I saw it in person was the writing in white wrapped around the top portion of the apple. From the photo I took, I can make out “Dos Caminos” and “Blue Fin.”

I wonder if this apple sculpture was originally set up in Times Square where another Dos Caminos is located right next to Blue Fin?!

Fan Art Fridays: Roselyn Sanchez

image

National Hispanic Heritage Month began today, September 15! To celebrate, I’ll be posting fan art of Hispanic/Latino celebs all month long.

First up is actress Roselyn Sanchez. She was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

I absolutely loved her as Carmen Luna on Devious Maids. Her character is basically like the one friend you need in your girl group to keep the gossip interesting.

Roselyn Sanchez is expecting a baby soon, and she just released a children’s book earlier this month called Sebi and the Land of Cha Cha Cha.

Enjoy this digital fan art I found of the actress over on Deviant Art by Ghanaian artist luxuryzz (Denzel Oduro).

He captured her smolder so well!
