Wardrobe Wednesdays: Temporary Hiatus

“But you were gone for so long and just came back!” they said.

I know, I’m so sorry, but I had a really long day.

See you next week for Wardrobe Wednesdays, I promise!

Gallery Mondays: Hung Yi’s Fancy Animal Carnival

Since September, the Garment District in NYC has seen a splash of vibrantly colored animals along Broadway between 36th and 41st Streets.

Created by Taiwanese artist Hung Yi, the installation is called Fancy Animal Carnival. It’s very fitting, especially since these animals, which include pandas, camels, and bulls, are decorated so intricately with carnival-like colors.

My favorite of the installation is this bull with a septum piercing nose ring. He is definitely rocking that ginormous piece of jewelry!

Learn more about Fancy Animal Carnival here, and go check it out before it ends on April 15!

Fan Art Fridays: Darren Criss

Today I was at work casually listening to the New Music Friday playlist on Spotify when I heard a familiar voice come through my headphones.
The song was “Lost Boys Life” and the artist was Computer Games–a band didn’t know until I Googled them and found out that Darren Criss is one of the members, alongside his brother, Chuck.

Yes. The familiar voice was Darren Criss’. I’m still dumbfounded. I didn’t even know he had a brother!

Anyway, I love the song and the rest of the EP that Computer Games put out this week. In celebration of this discovery, here’s a piece of fan art I found on Pinterest of Darren Criss. I have no clue who created it, but I’m totally digging the sepia feel of it.

Listen to the EP here if you haven’t already!

Wardrobe Wednesdays: Kelsea Ballerini @ iHeartRadio Music Awards 2017

Kelsea Ballerini was a dream in midnight blue at this year’s iHeartRadio Music Awards.

She won Best New Country Artist and turned heads with a sexy blue sparkly jumpsuit. Her eye makeup was as daring as her deep cleavage, bold blue cat-eye and all.

Apparently all that glitters isn’t only gold?

I love how party-ready this outfit is. You can’t not want to just jump out onto the dance floor while wearing something like this.

See below for two jumpsuits inspired by the look!

Jumpsuit:

1. Lulus, $68.00

2. Bloomingdale’s, $108.00

Gallery Mondays: Nari Ward’s ‘Smart Tree’

I did a double take when I saw this installation of a car made of tire on the High Line two months ago.

Yes, you read correctly. Moreover, it’s a smart car made of tire. And that’s not even the best part.

Called Smart Tree, the installation, created by Nari Ward, features an apple tree growing out of the roof of the smart car. The story behind this is actually inspired by true events.

According to the press release, when Ward went to visit his father in Jamaica, he saw a lime tree growing out of an abandoned car parked in the front yard. Since New York’s climate can’t sustain a lime tree, the recreation included an apple tree instead. The installation went on view in April 2016’s spring weather, but by the time I got to see it in the winter the tree was dying.

Ward is known for making installations out of items he finds his neighborhood (which includes Jamaica, New Jersey, and Harlem), so I’m guessing that’s where the tire came from. I’d like to know if the rubber on the tire is eco-friendly. If so, we’ve got one hell of an environmentally conscious art installation here.

February Favorites: Oscars Fashion & “Chained to the Rhythm” Music Video

feb-17-faves

Is it just me, or was February kind of intense?

If anything, I think February 2017 takes the cake as the month where every TV show plot line spun out of control. I thought we were supposed to be saving the whole coming “in like a lion and out like a lamb” thing until March …

Anyway, here are my faves in pop culture and entertainment for February 2017.

Favorite News Articles

1. The Voice drama. I bet Gwen will actually end up sleeping on the couch at some point this season.

2. There’s an orangutan at a Danish zoo choosing a mate from an iPad. Safe to say online dating isn’t limited to homo sapiens anymore …

Favorite Music

1. “Heavy” by Powers. Those instrumental bits in the chorus are making me beg for summer.

Fan Art Fridays: Ed Sheeran

I know I said I’d be back yesterday. I had every intention of posting but I got home from work very late and very tired.

But I’m here now with a new Fan Art Fridays!

Ed Sheeran’s new album ÷ is finally out and boy, did our Teddy outdo himself with the diversity aspect on the deluxe edition for this one!

From fast paced raps and dancable rhythms to slow ballads and foreign languages, Ed Sheeran’s album is a real treat that’ll probably get him a ton of new faces in the crowd on tour. I personally fell in love Twi song “Bibia Be Ye Ye.”

While snooping around Instagram, I came across this really creative fan art of Ed Sheeran by sarahasartist. Drawn on brown paper, the chorus of “Thinking Out Loud” dances across his slight grin. It’s the perfect transition from x to ÷.

Check out sarahasartist’s work over on Instagram.
