The first day of the Lunar New Year was this past weekend! Kung Hei Fat Choi!
I was at Macy’s in Queens Center Mall on Saturday morning when I came across this sensational Chinese dragon decor for the New Year celebration. My favorite color is yellow, so of course this popped right out at me. I do wish there were a few more yellow lanterns in this installation.
I think my favorite thing about depictions of Chinese dragons is the little goatee underneath their chins. The yellow goatee in this installation looks extra fluffy. I just wanna stroke it!
For those that are celebrating the Chinese New Year, enjoy!
British YouTuber Oli White’s 22nd birthday was yesterday, January 26. It’s so hard to believe that some of the YouTubers I watch regularly are younger than me. Especially Oli.
I don’t know why, but I always thought he was at least a year older than me until recently.
In celebration of Oli White’s birthday, enjoy this fan art I found of him on Pinterest by Ally. It’s a super cool cubist-like portrait of the YouTuber, which I think fits his personality perfectly.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a person look so cozy in a coat before.
Rihanna was spotted at JFK Airport yesterday, January 17th, wearing a tan colored reversible shearling coat, ripped boyfriend jeans, and brown boots.
I myself am not one to try rocking a pair of distressed jeans (mainly because I grew up with my dad shunning the heck out of them and now I just can’t bring myself to buy a pair), but I must say, these look particularly ripped, baggy, and comfy.
And that coat is just a dream. Really. I wouldn’t mind having the weather drop to the negatives if I had a coat like that.
Check out the original jacket Rihanna wore below (marked with *) and a few other items inspired by the look.
I had the honor of visiting Washington, D.C. during the 4th of July weekend in 2016—a time when President Obama still had months left of his second term, and everyone was still grappling with the fact that Donald Trump would be on the ballot come November.
Now that we’re days away from the inauguration, Obama and his family are probably packing up boxes of stuff and getting ready to head out of the White House this week.
I’m really going to miss him. Obama was a unique president in every way. However, I’ve come to realize that it’s time to start coming to terms with the fact that Donald Trump is getting sworn into office on Friday.
Thankfully, I’ll be at work during the ceremony, so I won’t have to watch it. I know many are planning to boycott channels showing live coverage the ceremony as well.
The next four years are going to be a wild ride. We have to remember that whatever happens, Trump cannot define us as Americans. He may be the face of our nation for the next four years, but he doesn’t have any power over our individual reputations.
Stay strong. Fight for what you believe in. Politics are always going to be a dirty game, but when we come together, there’s nothing we can’t do to bring about change.
Enjoy this model of the White House I saw last year at the White House Visitor Center.
Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and God bless America.
Meryl Streep won the DeMille Award at the Golden Globes this year, and boy, was that one hell of an acceptance speech or what?!
I’ve loved Meryl in basically every movie I’ve seen her in, from Doubt to It’s Complicated. She’s timeless, and gives life to every character she plays.
In honor of her achievement, I’ve decided to feature this fan art of her from DeviantArt by Miko2660. She looks quite young in this piece of fan art, perhaps from the late ’70s. It was created using ArtStuido.
I love how she’s looking up in the piece, as if she’s in a state of utter bliss. Her hair also looks so wispy!
Life gave Viola Davis some lemons, and from those lemons, we got a Golden Globes dress.
My mom and I could not take our eyes off that bright yellow dress Viola Davis wore to the 2017 Golden Globes! Yellow is my favorite color, so of course she won best dressed on my list.
She wore the dress with a simple white clutch bag. I love the one shoulder detail, which gives the gown an extra dash of sexy.
See below for some items inspired by this Golden Globes look!
So, this winter playlist is going to get a little weird.
I’ve been toying with the idea of making a playlist of songs named after people for a while. The only season it really fit in, to me, is winter.
You know how in movies there’s sometimes a girl in the forest during the winter shouting someone’s name into the void, hoping she’ll hear a response echoing back? That’s the kind of vibe I wanted to capture with this playlist.
Enjoy the 12 songs on this winter 2016-17 playlist!
1. Josephine (Alfa Mist Remix), RITUAL ft. Lisa Hannigan. Some serious sensuality going down right here.
2. Virginia Wolf, mAsis. For those lonely winter nights when you just want to be alone.
3.Genghis Khan, Miike Snow. Jealousy, anyone?
4. For Elise, Saint Motel. “You need a spark, a light in the dark, to get you out of your head and into your heart.”
5. Sweet Ophelia, Zella Day. Time for some deep reflection.
6. Stephen, Kesha. You better call her, Stephen. None of that 72 hours nonsense.
7. Roman, Housse de Raket. “What have you done?”
8. Ramona, Night Beds. This one’s easy on the ears.
9. Geronimo, Sheppard. I don’t recommend you jump into the waterfall. It’s cold, and that’s dangerous.
10. Jenny, the bird and the bee. “Where are you, Jenny? Don’t you know that I am calling on the telephone?”
11. Hey Maria, Klangkarussel. Here’s a cool little foot-tapping number.
