Wardrobe Wednesdays: Stella Maxwell @ VMAs 2016

Stella Maxwell VMAs 2016

When the VMAs have come and gone, you know summer is pretty much over.

I really wanted to attend this year’s VMAs, as they were in NYC at Madison Square Garden this time around, but I originally didn’t get tickets in the 1iota lottery. Regardless, I was super tired after getting home at 12:30am from the VMA Pre-Party at Terminal 5 on Saturday. Cue quick collage of performers Bebe Rexha, Phantogram, and Tove Lo:

Clockwise: Bebe Rexha, Phantogram, and Tove Lo

But anyway, for this week’s Wardrobe Wednesdays, we’re saying goodbye to the summer with splash of color from Stella Maxwell’s 2-piece tribal print set. I don’t know why the critics are listing her as one of the worst dressed. I just love the flared pant leg!

Below you’ll find two similar sets to help you end the summer with a bang.

Set:

1. Romwe, $15.99

2. URBANOG, $27.60

Gallery Mondays: ‘Private Passage’

hudson river park pier 96 bottle private passage

I just had a housewarming party on Friday, so I’m out of wine, and this week’s Gallery Mondays is reminding me I have to go by some more!

Anyway, I saw this really cool wine bottle one day while sitting at Pier 96 in NYC. It’s called Private Passage, and it was created by Malcolm Cochran.

I’m kind of upset now, because I just did some research on the bottle and realized the inside of it is a replica of an interior stateroom on the ocean liner Queen Mary. AND I DIDN’T KNOW WHILE I WAS THERE SO I DIDN’T LOOK THROUGH ANY OF THE HOLES TO SEE IT.

I’ll probably go back soon because clearly I have some unfinished business with that wine bottle.

Fan Art Fridays: Tyra Banks

If you haven’t already heard, Tyra Banks is going to be teaching a class on how to build your own brand at Stanford University.

How cool is that?! Lucky Stanford students!

In honor of the news, I’ve selected this sketch of Tyra Banks by MacaRios on Deviant Art. It just exudes a kind of sassy charm that she’s known for as a model and host. She’s all “Silence, class is now in session.”

Wardrobe Wednesdays: Fergie @ LAX

Fergie at LAX

Fergie was spotted at LAX on the way to Japan last week in this black and white ensemble.

She owned that black and white striped high low dress shirt by tying it up in a knot in the front. I really love her choice of footwear, opting to add a little silver to the mix with the metal toe on the boots.

Below are the original items (marked with *) and some alternatives to help you steal her airport style!

Gallery Mondays: “Art of Jazz” Mural at PAL Harlem

art of jazz pal harlem

I saw this vibrant mural on the side of the Police Athletic League (PAL) on the west side of Harlem a few weeks ago while headed to pick up some items I found in a Craigslist ad.

I just had to stop and understand what was happening in this mural. There’s a trumpet-playing man popping out of a phonograph, and it appears that the sound he’s producing sounds like swirls and flowers?

Basically summer in NYC during the Harlem Renaissance.

The mural, called “Art of Jazz,” was done by Creative Art Works. Learn more at www.creativeartworks.org.

Fan Art Fridays: Happy Belated Birthday, Robert De Niro

Robert De Niro turned 73 on Wednesday.

How is Robert De Niro 73?! Jeez. Was Goodfellas really that long ago?

Anyway, enjoy this piece of fan art I found of the birthday boy by Shahin Gholizadeh. It’s a side profile of the actor that shows off his “Touch of Gray.”

Influenster Maybelline #BetterSkinPowder Review

#BetterSkinPowder Maybelline#MNYItLook

*I received this product complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.

A few weeks ago while I was moving to NYC and still trying to set up my loft bed, my parents brought over my customized Maybelline #BetterSkinPowder Influenster box.

Maybelline Better Skin Powder

I got the shade 80, known as Rich Tan, because my current L’Oréal True Match foundation powder is Classic Tan (N7). They sounded and looked similar so I took the chance.

Here’s my face with my L’Oréal True Match Classic Tan:

And here it is with the Maybelline Better Skin Powder shade Rich Tan:

0818161907_HDR

The Maybelline Better Skin Powder Shade Rich Tan is definitely a bit of a lighter color than my L’Oréal True Match in Classic Tan. It doesn’t bother me though! My skin tone looks even with both. That’s really all I can ask for.

What do you guys think? L’Oréal or Maybelline?

Wardrobe Wednesdays: Jessica Pearson in ‘Suits’ Episode “Trust”

Jessica Pearson, Suits Episode -Trust-

Jessica Pearson brought on the ruffles in last week’s episode of Suits on USA.

I love how Jessica (played by Gina Torres) paired this sophisticated white ruffled collar vest with a simple black pencil skirt in the episode “Trust”. The outfit just screams “LADY BOSS”!

As you might have guessed, Jessica’s style doesn’t come cheap. The top costs over $1,000. Nope. Clearing the crud out of your eyes will not take any zeros off that number.

See below for the original vest (marked with *) and a few alternative pieces to help you Lady Bosses out there copy this look! Be sure to catch Suits tonight as well on USA at 9pm.

Top:

1. Orchard Mile, $1,156.00*

2. Nordstrom, $1,035.00

Skirt:

3. H&M, $12.99

4. ASOS, $16.50

Gallery Mondays: ‘Shadows & Substance’ by Marcia Haufrecht

Shadows & Substance | Marcia Haufrecht chashama 266

I was walking by Chashama 266 in Midtown West last month when I saw these really great paintings. I loved the summer vibes I got from them so I snapped a pic from the other side of the glass door.

I really need to make an appointment to see one of Chashama 266’s exhibits at some point!

Anyway, these were part of Marcia Haufrecht’s Shadows & Substance exhibit. It reminded me of all the Q53 bus rides I’m not going to miss this summer because I moved out of Queens. Therefore, I no longer have to board a crowded bus full of beach-goers.

Why does anyone want to go to the beach in this scorching heat anyway? The sand is going to burn you!

Be smart like the two in the painting on the far right and visit a lake instead.
