*I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.

I got sent another Voxbox by Influenster this month, and I’m finally getting the chance to review the items I received!

The box contained Botanics Organic Hydrating Day Cream, Foot Petals Killer Kushionz, Sinful Colors nail polish in the shade Mirror Mirror, Sinful Shine top coat, Good Health Veggie Stix, SoapBox Shampoo & Conditioner, two Yogi Teas in the flavors Vanilla Spice and Sweet Tangerine, and Not Your Mother’s Whip It Up Cream Styling Mousse.

My mother has already claimed ownership of the Soapbox Shampoo & Conditioner and the Botanics Organic Hydrating Day Cream because I don’t plan on using them.

And now for the review:

1. Botanics Organic Hydrating Day Cream. I love the way this smells. It’s got rose hip, jojoba oil and cocoa butter in it, and the rose hip makes the whole thing smell like pure rose extract. I’m not complaining. It’s lovely. But I already wear a fade cream for my spots so as I said before my mom is keeping it.

2. Foot Petals Killer Kushionz. So I was kind of bummed that I didn’t get the Give ’em the Boot Foot Petals cushion because it’s winter now and I wanted to wear them with my boots but I guess I’ll just stick them in my pumps and wait to wear them to a special occasion or something. They feel quite cushiony, so I expect them to work well in terms of foot comfort.

3. Sinful Colors Mirror Mirror, and Sinful Shine top coat. Okay, so you all probably already know how much I love Sinful Colors nail polish, and they sent me the top coat for this color as well so I was tres happy. Mirror Mirror kind of looks like a crime scene happened on my nails though. It’s an interesting look, and the top coat shine is superb!

4. Good Health Veggie Sticks. I’ve been obsessed with Good Health’s veggie snacks since the winter of last year. I was so upset when I opened the Spice Voxbox to find that the bag had popped open 😦 It was only a few sticks that fell out though, so I can still enjoy the rest of the bag.

5. SoapBox Shampoo & Conditioner. This shampoo and conditioner comes in the scent coconut and shea butter―two scents I absolutely adore. I don’t think I’ll be switching from my Herbal Essences shampoo and conditioner any time soon though, but I do admire that these are sulfur free. My mom is going to have a field day with these.

6. Yogi Tea, Vanilla Spice and Sweet Tangerine. I’ve tried samples of Yogi Tea in the past and I didn’t like them. The flavors I had before were Roasted Dandelion Spice and Raspberry Ginger, so there’s hope that the new flavors I received in this box taste better.

7. Not Your Mother’s Whip It Up Cream Styling Mousse. I might be dreaming but I think this smells like cake icing and whipped cream. Should I be concerned?

My faves in this box are definitely the Sinful Colors nail polish and the Good Health Veggie Sticks. And you already know my mother’s faves…and she’s dancing off to her room with them…so now it’s time to go enjoy this Spice Voxbox!

Fan Art Fridays: The 1975’s Matt Healy

Today The 1975 released the music video for their new single “UGH!” After watching it this morning, I just had to make Matt Healy the subject of this week’s Fan Art Fridays.

The music video was directed by Adam Powell, who also directed The 1975’s “Girls.” He plays with a lot of psychedelic lighting in the video, bringing the song’s ostentatiousness to a new level.

I just can’t get over how great Matt Healy’s curls look in the music video and in this fan art sketch of him I found on Tumblr by Melanie. Definitely loving the way that shaved portion of his hair grew back!

The 1975 are always fun to watch in music videos, and I hope I can see them live one day. It would be so awesome to hear some of the songs from their upcoming album I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it performed live!

See the original fan art here, and enjoy the music video below!

Green Tree Jewelry Review

SPONSORED*green tree jewelryThis post is sponsored by Green Tree Jewelry. All opinions are my own.*

Green Tree Jewelry is a San Diego, California based company that makes wood-cut earrings, pendants, bracelets, and even clocks using thin, recycled multi-layer wood. Their jewelry is both fun to wear and eco-friendly.

I was sent three pairs of earrings to review. My first choice was the Hunger Games: Mockingjay earrings in Cinammon, my second choice the Nautical Star earrings in Black Satin, and my third the Diamond Cut earrings in Apple Green and Gray. When I got the earrings in the mail, I noticed that they smell like a subtle cedar wood incense. It’s quite lovely.

The earrings are not heavy at all, and they look great with an updo. I just can’t get enough of how amazing they smell! I’ve been wearing the Nautical Star earrings quite a bit lately, so the smell is wearing off a little which is kind of sad, but the other two pairs are still going strong.

With over 600 different designs to choose from on the site, you’re bound to find one for just about every jewelry-obsessed girl on your Christmas list.

Gallery Mondays: Frank Leslie’s ‘Illustrated Newspaper’

frank leslie cooper union

As a journalist, looking at old newspapers excites me. I love looking at the typeface used and the old photographs placed on the paper’s yellowing pages. But perhaps most of all, I love learning about the history of the publication.

While I was sipping on some white wine at Cooper Union during Ada Calhoun’s book party, I saw this page from the April 14, 1883 edition of Frank Leslie’s Illustrated Newspaper on the wall. It caught my eye because of all the intricate drawings featured on the page, ironically of students working in several art-related classes.

Frank Leslie’s Illustrated Newspaper was a pictorial publication started by illustrator and publisher Frank Leslie. It ran from 1852 to 1922.

The paper featured articles by figures such as Louisa May Alcott, Ellis Parker, and Helen R. Martin. Well known illustrators for the paper included Norman Rockwell and Albert Berghaus.

Many of the pages from this publication are collectors items that sell for about $500 a page. The paper is a very interesting way to convey powerful news stories.

Fan Art Fridays: Tove Lo

tove lo cartoon caricature

I was listening to Coldplay’s new album A Head Full of Dreams on Spotify today and I got really excited when I saw that Tove Lo is featured on their song “Fun.” She brings an interesting vibe to the album with her alt-pop vocals and multi-dimensional personality.

Her voice blends very well on the ballady track as a backup vocal to Chris Martin. “Fun” is one of my favorites on the album, along with “Army of One” and “Adventure Of A Lifetime.”

The song inspired me to look around for some cool fan art of Tove Lo, and I came across this cartoon portrait by Lily-the-Animator on Deviant Art. You gotta love her somber-looking, droopy, googly blue eyes!

View the original fan art here and check out “Fun” for yourself on Spotify!

Wardrobe Wednesdays: Tamara Ecclestone in London

Tamara Ecclestone in London

Tamara Ecclestone was the crème de la crème earlier this week in London in a cream colored cashmere coat paired with an ivory sweater. She makes late fall fashion look super fun with the sassy little mini skirt and ankle boots she wore to finish the look.

I’ve never been daring enough to wear white outerwear. I just recently bought a white cardigan from Forever 21, and every time I eat while wearing it I cringe incessantly. There’s no telling what I’d do if I were wearing Tamara’s cream ensemble.

Nonetheless, she looks gorgeous, and is inspiring fashionistas to go invest in that cream coat they’ve had their eyes on for weeks. You can find some of the original pieces (marked with *) that Tamara is wearing below (adorable child not included, sorry) and alternatives in case they sell out.

Coat:

1. Harrods, £2,580.00 ($3,917.28 USD)*

2. Bloomingdale’s, $270.00
