Capital Cities @ Pier 97 #Underwearness

Last night, Capital Cities turned Pier 97 into a Kangaroo Court.

On Twitter last week I found out that Capital Cities would be having a free concert at Pier 97 in NYC on August 6th. If you’ve read my Sunshine Award 2014 post, you’ll know that I’ve really been wanting to see them live. This was my chance, because the concert wasn’t 21+.

So I RSVP’d and freaked out when it said the first 500 would be guaranteed entry. I decided to run out of work to see if I’d make it anyway.

I’m so glad I did, because I had a blast.

The concert was sponsored by Depend, a brand of adult underwear for those with bladder illnesses. The hashtags for the event were #Underwearness and #DropYourPants.

That meant that you’d have to #DropYourPants and don a pair of adult diapers to get into the VIP area.

I was lucky enough to be let in to the VIP without doing so, thanks to Sebu Simonian who bargained with the security guards.

DJ Ruckus spinned some tracks for us while we waited for the show to start. He played hits like “Fancy” and “Turn Down For What” to get us all pumped.

Next up was some spoken word from Mighty Mike McGee. He shared some amazing love poems with us.

Then it was time for the #Underwearness fashion show.

After we drooled over the hot models in adult diapers, Capital Cities took the stage.

The show opened with “Kangaroo Court.” Everybody went nuts, and the party was just getting started.

The band also played fan favorites “Origami,” “Farah Fawcett Hair,” and “I Sold My Bed But Not My Stereo.”

Sebu taught the crowd how to dance the “Capital Cities Shuffle” for the performance of “Centerstage.” They also let some of the VIP dance on stage with them!

The show ended with “One Minute More,” “Safe and Sound,” and a cover of Madonna’s “Holiday.”

During “Holiday,” Sebu, Ryan and Spencer came down into the crowd. I got to touch Ryan and Sebu!

As the band said goodnight, an awesome EDM version of “Safe and Sound” played while the models came back out to dance in their underwear.

I had an amazing time. Thanks so much for the free concert, Depend!

Weird Al for Superbowl Halftime 2015?

Looks like Weird Al fans want some mandatory fun at Superbowl 2015!

Ed Ball from the state of Washington created a petition on change.org for professional parody cover artist Weird Al to perform at the Superbowl XLIX Halftime show next year.

The petition only needed a little over 1,000 signatures, but it now has almost 50,000.

His petition reads:

For decades Weird Al has entertained fans, young and old, with his popular clever parodies and unique sense of humor. Having him headline the Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show. would not only be overly accepted by the millions of views, but it would remain true to the standards and quality of the show business we have come to love and respect out of this prestigious event. The songs of artists that he is parodying could join him on stage to accompany, as well as other surprise appearances from well-known actors/actresses, adding more prestige and star power. The theatrics alone would be hilarious and a welcoming change, and draw a wider audience of fans that typically would not tune into the championship game or half-time show.

Ball is overwhelmed with the support for his petition. When it hit 20,000 signatures, he wrote this message:

I most definitely would not mind dancing to “Word Crimes” during Superbowl Halftime next year.

Hopefully Weird Al’s publicist makes this happen!

Lucy Hale Auditioned for ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’

Surprise, surprise: your favorite Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale could have been cast as Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades of Grey.

Maybe she was cast in another life. I’d like to transfer to that dimension.

In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Lucy Hale talks about her role as Aria Montgomery, her music, and her kinky audition.

“That audition was so uncomfortable!” she said. “It’s exactly what you thought it would be: a big monologue but very, very sexual … there were some things that I was so embarrassed to be reading out loud, but it’s one of those things where you have to commit wholeheartedly or you’re going to make a fool of yourself.”

Earlier this week, Lucy Hale’s father joked about the captions surrounding her cover photo.

“Just saw your pic on Cosmo, you look wonderful,” read a text message from Papa Hale. “Not [too] crazy about the articles beside your photo. Love u.”

She wrote back, “Hahaha thanks daddy. I love you,” followed by three hearts.

What a cute way for father and daughter to bond over text.

The Lucy Hale September issue of Cosmopolitan hits stands August 12.

Keke Palmer to Play First African-American Cinderella on Broadway

Keke Palmer is on a roll lately. First a talk show on BET and now a lead role in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Broadway play Cinderella.

On September 9th, Keke Palmer will make history as the first African-American Cinderella to step foot on a Broadway stage.

That’s pretty amazing.

The 21-year-0ld actress is the youngest to have a talk show on cable television. She is also famous for her role as True Jackson on the Nickelodeon show True Jackson VP.

Rumor has is that Real Housewives of Atlanta star NeNe Leakes might play alongside Palmer as the fairy godmother.

That’s gonna be one for the critics.

The play currently features Nancy Opel as Madame, Joe Carroll as Prince Topher, Tony winner Victoria Clark as Marie, Ann Harada as Charlotte, Stephanie Gibson as Gabrielle, Todd Buonopane as Jean-Michel, Peter Bartlett as Sebastian and Phumzile Sojola as Lord Pinkleton.

I can’t wait to see Keke Palmer in a ball gown and glass slippers. I’m sure she’ll make Broadway proud!

Improv Everywhere Turns NYC Subway into Luxury Spa

Imagine getting off the train at the 34th Street subway station and seeing a bunch of people sitting on benches in white robes and towels.

That’s exactly the scene Improv Everywhere decided to set up on an 85 degree day in NYC. It was 95 degrees underground, which is the perfect temperature for a relaxing sauna.

So why not?

“It’s surprising,” said one woman. “Unusual.”

The crew set up a sauna station on the benches, a water mist platform, and even a hot stone massage.

“That stone treatment is lovely,” said a lady after trying the massage.

Most of the people exiting the trains were utterly confused. Others were amused at the idea and decided to take advantage.

I’d be a bit skeptical of the germs lurking on the subway benches, so I wouldn’t want to sit on them in just a towel or robe.

I would, however, waste no time signing up for that hot stone massage!

The funniest part is the way they packed everything up and left as if nothing ever happened.

How would you react if you got off the train to find 34th Street renamed 34th Spa?

Watch the hilarious video below.

Kim Kardashian Almost Adopted a Girl In Thailand

On Sunday’s episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians on E!, viewers learn that Kim Kardashian almost adopted a girl named Pink while on a family vacation in Thailand.

However, Pink, 12, lives in an orphanage in Thailand where adoption isn’t an option.

When Kim told mama Kris about her desire to adopt Pink she wasn’t too jazzed about the idea. Kris said,

That’s a little aggressive. I think that you can’t just go to an orphanage and fall in love with a child and then take them home like you’re shopping. You get very passionate about things and then you don’t think the whole thing through. I bet there are other things that you could do that would make all the difference in this little girl’s life.

Since adopting Pink wasn’t an option, Kim had no choice but to find “other things” to help the orphan. She decides to bring a few gifts to the orphanage, not only for Pink but for all the children.

Watch the clip here.

Do you think Nori and Pink would have gotten along if Kim was able to adopt her?

Also, congrats to Kim for making it to day 73 of marriage!

Farmer Summons Cattle with Lorde’s “Royals”

Looks like these cows definitely want to be royals!

Kansas Farmer Derek Klingenberg, famous for covering pop songs on YouTube, managed to summon an entire herd of cows with his rendition of Lorde’s “Royals.”

The video begins with Klingenberg facing the camera and whispering “shhh” before sitting on a lawn chair to play the popular song on his trombone.

Just before the first chorus, a few black cattle begin to appear across the landscape. And they’re not moving slow either.

Turns out that Lorde vibes really get them cows movin’!

At about three minutes in, the video speeds up and the cows form a tight crowd around the farmer.

It’s simply amazing.

I wonder what other animals would respond this way to Lorde. Sheep? Horses?

Check out Farmer Derek Klingenberg on YouTube, where you’ll find some more of his cool covers, especially this awesome “Blurred Lines” parody, farm animal edition.
